In Case Anyone's Still Monitoring This Website...

Just letting y'all know there are various cleanings to be done in terms of website maintenance. Not sure if anyone's still looking over anything, but I've noticed the following things need patching for more efficient web browsing:

• The "General Forums" section contains too many "Avatar Meet" subforums dating back as far as 8 years ago. These need to be archived.
  
• Certain subforums have proven (through time) that they are unneeded and serve only to clutter the main home screen. The following subforums have less than 20 threads: "Sports", "Scientific Discussion and Reasoning", "Role Playing", and "Fan Articles and Commentary". These should all be moved to appropriate alternative subforums, or archived into a single location.
  
• The "IRC" tab in the top header is defunct, and should be removed. No one uses it anyway.
  
• The "Calendar" tab is outdated, stopping on December 2013 and going no further. Either update it, or remove it altogether.
  
• The following links at the bottom that link to sister sites and affiliations are of defunct websites and should be removed: "avatar-forums.com", "avatarprime.net", and "pandoraworld.ru".

This is all I found from casually browsing around the site out of curiosity, so I'm aware there may be more to fix after more extensive site sifting (if any is to be done). I don't want to seem like a "Dwight" kinda guy about this but again, this is about efficiency. If there's anyone who manages this forum site who still manages it from time to time, take a look at these problems and handle them. Thanks.

yeah it's sad that so many former Avatar fansites and sources are dead and gone. sad. very sad only.

I know that a while ago there were plans to give this forum a major upgrade with a different look. I wonder if that's still the case...?

Certainly a bummer that links to some of those fansites don't need to be there anymore. Learn Na'vi still seems decently active though. The Avatar subreddit (not linked here) gets a fair amount of traffic too, but I don't get the same "feel" from it that I've associated with ToS.

It's the ambience of the dark colors and the attitude of the people here. A lot of us (especially us original members) have a certain kind of attachment to the film that other people don't. I'll say even after all these years, Avatar is still my second-favorite film of all time. (Second to the LotR trilogy, which I don't think anything could really ever top.)

The Avatarmeet boards could be made into subcategories of one Avatarmeet board, but I otherwise agree that there should be a cleanup.

If the site were more active and populous I would suggest to move from IRC to Discord lol

I've heard nothing about a cancellation. Perhaps the admins are busy with life or don't see the point of doing it so long before the sequels?

It's crumbling away because no one's monitoring it. We need new moderators; people who're here more often and will, with the tiny audience that's left at the moment, do what needs doing.

EDIT: All of the moderators are essentially gone. None have posted anything since March of last year, the last being Eltu. Perhaps he'll return, but until that time we've got no one here. Two of the three admins haven't been here for a number of years, with HumanNoMore publicly announcing his exit, yet still listed as an admin. Perhaps he (or another) is keeping the funding of this forum's server going? I'm not sure. I do know that it's a bit frustrating to see how ever since I left this forum, things haven't been the same. It sounds a bit egotistic, but... it's kinda true.

I only just now considered what you meant by this question. I guess it's not, as there is no interaction between it and ToS like what we used to have with Avatar Forums, Avatar Prime, and Learn Na'vi. Kelutral.org looks like something completely separate, born independent of the network of forums that sprang up around 2010. Still, if anyone from there makes their presence known here I'll say hi to them.

I've been thinking lately that this actually might not be the case. Someone else here has already said this, but it seems that forums on their own websites specifically dedicated to one topic are almost bygones from a past era of the internet by now. So much of the traffic that would be on them are now on big social media sites like Facebook, Instagram, and Reddit. Maybe some of the old members from around 2010 will show up again when the sequel is out, but potential new members might not think to discuss the movie on a site like this.

Of course, I won't be disappointed next year if I'm wrong about this!

i have zero interest in facetrash, ig is problematic for discussion because most of the users either don't speak english or only use stupid smileys on everything, and reddit is infested with trolls, porn, russians, feds, ugh. the official Avatar twitter is pretty much dead except for the occasional post, where is all the Avatar discussion at?
