Avatar DVD - Blu-Ray Pre-Order Begins!

I've noticed some shops started putting Avatar up for Pre-Order.

I don't think it'll have those. Still, at £15 it's well worth getting this early version I think.

Does this mean that Avatar will be pulled from theatres before April 22? I think (though maybe I'm wrong) that movies tend to leave theatres before their home video release.

Im gonna wait for the version with all the extra material - while noone of us know the reason behind why they havent included the extra material ( Yeah they wanted to re-release it during the fall - Maybe it just isnt ready at that point yet ) - Basicly it all comes down to greed, and while i sure as hell would want another 200$ mill.... still it hurts my eyes :<

For the record im a huuuuuuuuuuuuge movie 'geek' as well, so its not like its an easy choice... damn it !

Also as expected, Fox will be packaging Avatar on Blu-ray as a streamlined movie-only release to maximize a/v quality (here's hoping for 7.1 DTS-HD Master Audio). There will be no supplemental features - not even menus - but a second disc will include the DVD version of the film.

"We went to Fox and told them that, for this movie, we wanted to do something really special and reach for the best presentation of any film in the history of the format," Avatar producer Jon Landau said. "This is a movie that has done the unexpected every step of the way. Fox agreed with us and the result is amazing. Everything that is put on a disc takes up room -- the menus, the extras, the trailers and studio promotions -- and we got rid of all of that so we could give this movie the best picture and sound possible."

The BFI IMAX in London has it until at least April 22nd (and doesn't list any showings of anything after that so I guess it may go on longer still). This isn't going to stop me from pre-ordering though

Amazon have also opened their pre-orders, but I asked them to notify me when it was available and they didn't, so play.com it is!

It is likely.

Avatar is pulled from roughly 100 movie theaters a week in the US with weekly world-wide ticket sales of roughly $20-30m, while decreasing about 15% a week. By the time April 22 comes around, it is likely Avatar will be out of most RealD and 2D theaters (IMAX is a different story however, as it continues to be sold out from repeat watchers), setting it up rather well for a re-release...
