It seems that you might be referring more to Jehovah's Witnesses, Mormons, or Evangelicals. If so, then I can understand why you might not like them coming to your door. It does have to do with the belief that one should tell the gospel to others. Christianity is not the only religion to try to recruit members. If you don't want to listen then that's fine but they are just doing what they believe.

Maybe I came across as a bit harsh on that, I know that it's still only a relatively small number of cases compared to the size of it overall, and I'm glad that it's all finally coming out in the open and I wish them the best of luck in getting rid of all the abusers.

Thank you. Its going to take a while but I would like to let you and others know that the Church did come out in about 2002-2003 at least here in the US with some very strict procedures concerning abuse. Since then, reports of any new cases of abuse are very few in number. The majority of cases that are still being uncovered is stuff that happened decades ago. Of course, that doesn't make it right but it should at least give some perspective on the situation.

That last post was very interesting. I'm still not going to agree with christian opinions on this, as I think they are flawed, and based on what I consider fiction. If they work for some people, that's fine though - just don't tell other people what to do.

I don't expect you to agree . The Church proposes and that is all She can do. Many people won't listen, others will. It is ultimately the person's choice.

PS. as for political power, just look at the US, where just about every single politician has to claim they are christian

Whatever happened to separation of church and state? Ironically, we don't have it, but it's more separate, at least in government (although unfortunately not in schools )... but even then, the church gets to appoint people to the House of Lords (a completely unelected second chamber made of people with no connection to the people the government are supposed to represent).

I believe you are referring to the Church of England. It is this kind of "marriage" that the Americans wanted to separate. That is what it means. There is a lot of misunderstanding and misapplication of the phrase Church and State to the point where it stiffles free expression of religion, etc in the public square.

As for tax exempt status, not exactly what I meant, but I guess that could be included, I oppose any religion-related tax exemptions.

The tax exempt status is mainly for the Church to not be in a position of supporting something that is clearly against their beliefs and it also helps for the government not to get involved in Church affairs. This tax exempt status also extends to other religions as well, not just Christianity.
