I'd like to think we're all tolerant here.

I've never liked that word though as it seems to imply we have to 'tolerate' something, which we don't.

Take animal. Make it walk upright. Give it muscles.

There you go, a furry, it's still a freaking animal, it just walks upright like a human and acts like one. And people can't just say "Oh, it's just an attraction," because If you're attracted to something, you will want to have sex with it, I doubt the people who say they just like dressing up like animals never fantasize about doing them.

That still doesn't make them bad people.

Just my opinion...

I think what consenting adults do in private isn't a problem, but I wish they wouldn't keep trying to make it so obvious they like that just to get a reaction. Personally, it's just about one of the biggest DO NOT WANTs on the internet, and that's saying something

This is something I found a while back when I was trying to "educate" myself on the subject. I think it's quite informative, even though I do not quite grasp it's full meaning, but that's my shortcoming.

What's a furry?

By ~tamasan

In the end, a furry is a mask a human uses to show their true self. Their creative/hyper/outgoing nature. Just like shamans and mimes and trekkies, they hide their civilian faces, and reveal their true selves. If you've ever seen KILL BILL you'll have heard the superman monologue. David Carradine explains how Superman is the true individual, and Clark Kent is the Mask. This is how many of us are. When we do what appears to be hiding behind masks, we really remove the masks that we once cowered behind. I do that through art and music. Others do that through fur-suits or masks. We use our costumes as gateways, gateways into our souls. In that, I find furries are a redeeming and inseperable part of our humanity. They are frank. They remind us of how we are all animals. They remind us that we can be predatory or prey. They remind us, in possibly the greatest sight gag in farcical comedy ever, or our sexuality. But mostly, they remind us that we fear each other, and need filters to express ourselves. Furries are a form of art which unmasks all artists. They Show how we are all wanting to reach out, but are afraid to. Furries are vivacious. Furries are creative. Furries are playful. Furries are extroverted. In them, many find those qualities they couldn't trust to the world, and express them.

Those who hate furries, are what I perceive as jealous. Often, they have no art, or are not honest with it. In the spirit of macho-ism or tough-guy mentality, they reject the idea of openess. As they do that, the lose out on something. Not the prospect of furries specifically, but the prospect of honesty. They must lie and hide behind masks and pretensions. They must cower in the dark with so called "friends" whom only see them as shields or swords against the world. It is a sad world to live in. But, I do not live in that world, and neither do many furries.

Now, granted, people get carried away. People share things that are distressing or destructive. But, this is also part of the psychodrama of it all. They express what shouldn't be, to some, or what inherently shouldn't be done. And, this is understood and expected by most in their community. they help each other face issues of masochism and sadness, or rejection and freudian perversion. In the end, many exercise demons in the process. Many find a sexual nature in it all, but I see it differently. I see it as people being able to face each other and trust, because they don't believe they have to hide. I've heard stories of people popping their heads, and facing each other un-filtered. Of course, putting the ol' mask back on for fun. They live and flow more freely through this expression, and bring joy into the world.

So I say, God bless America!

God bless furries!

And, God bless us every one!

(...one of my better randomly improvised speeches.)

^^ How could you be so wrong? Attraction isn't about sex. I'm attracted to several people, and yet some I wouldn't dream of having sex with. I'd want to hold them, hug them, kiss them, feel them. But I wouldn't have sex with them simply because I'm attracted to them, I'd only have sex with someone I Love. and Love and attraction are not the same There's a reason it's called 'making love'.

(also as a note, I am part of the furry fandom, but I do not dress up as a furry, nor do I know anyone who openly does.)

Well the credit is not for me, since like I said, the post in question is the property of tamasan from deviantART and I was merely relaying it here.

I'm the last person in the world to make good speeches, since my creative abilities are more or less nonexistent. Nor do I possess the required knowledge to speak about the subject in such fashion.

Anyways, I just thought this was a good a place as any to put it.

Furries? No problem. Some are really good people. They're just different that's all.
