CHAPTER 3
After fifteen minutes, the satellites reached their planets. The satellites, once in stable orbit, started to take high resolution pictures of the moons. The pictures were then transmitted back to the Columbus which then in turn transmitted them to the operations rooms on earth. Pictures of all the moons were flashing by on the monitor when Walter exclaimed "STOP!" One of the operators stopped the feed. "Do a slow rewind of the pictures." Walter said. The operator did as Walter told him to do, and five picture back they saw something that made the room go silent. "Which planet is this?" asked Walter. One of the techs answered him after a few moments, "I checked the satellite number that took the picture, it was 1963240, the one above Pandora sir." "Pandora? Are you certain?" Walter asked, his voice shaking slightly. The tech looked him square in the eye and said "I have never been more sure on anything in my life." The room was silent for a minute. Walter cleared his throat. "Alright then, bring up all the images of Pandora and put them on the main monitor." Walter commanded Every picture that popped on to the monitor was met with silence. No one knew what to say, what they saw was simply too amazing. "J...Jenny could you c..come here for a moment?" Walter stuttered. Jenny walked up next to him, she was as silent as he, just staring at the pictures on the monitor. Walter spoke "Jenny could you please tell me what we are looking at." Jenny was still so shocked it took her a minute to respond. "I see vast tropical rain forests across much of the land, and were there is not there are plains of grass." Walter nodded his head and said "What else do you see Jenny?" Jenny swallowed. "On the plains I see what look like herds of animals and above the rain forest I see what look like flocks of birds of all different kinds." "And tell me; what do jungles, plains of grasses, flocks of birds, and herds of animals mean?" Jenny was silent, the room was silent, you could hear a pin drop from across the room. "Jenny, I asked you a question." said Walter. Jenny looked at him with a shocked smile on her face. "Its means something we could have never hoped for in our wildest dreams. Something that people have said exists only on Earth." She paused for a second, and then said the word that every single person in that room wanted to say, but were too shocked to say it. "Life...Life... LIFE!!! THEY MEAN THAT THERE IS LIFE ON A PLANET OTHER THAN EARTH!! She hugged Walter. Instantly everyone in the room jumped up and started to hug each other as well. All that could be heard were cries of "WE FOUND LIFE!!" After five minutes of celebration Walter yelled above all the noise, "Chief Technician, send down the planetary surface probes!" -Malu tek tek |
