Wear an ankle brace for running...you really don't want to risk reinjuring it. I sprained my ankle very badly in high school...it took about 7 years to heal completely (stop aching after exercise, and such). The ankle brace helped a lot, when worn sparingly.

Trust me, it will be worth it to take care of it a little!
