If I remember correctly, the DVD has actually several spelling errors itself, "Toruk Macto" among them.

Also, both "Toruk Makto" AND "Toruk Macto" is in fact wrong. Gramatically, the correct term would be "Toruk Maktoyu".

Yeah, it would be pronounced differently. Toruk Makto is right though.

Then why did Neytiri say, "Toruk Makto was mighty..." to Jake?

Toruk Makto literally means "Toruk Ride" - but is still used as the title although it is grammatically incorrect.

The right thing to say would be Toruk Maktoyu which means "Toruk Rider".

Simply put,
Toruk Makto is the title but is still not grammatically correct.
Toruk Maktoyu literally means Toruk rider but is not used as a title.

The DVD/Blu-ray may be in fact correct. The Na'vi language is always changing. I wouldn't say it's correct nor incorrect.

But its still spelled wrong.

There is not a single 'c' in the rest of the language.

To quote iluvneytiri:
Quote:
There is no letter "c" when writing Na'vi in the Latin alphabet. The spelling should be "makto" and "Omatikaya". I don't think that will ever change because it is very rational. The letter "c" in English has two separate sounds: [k] as in "cat" and [s] as in "century". Na'vi is more consistent. The letter k is always used for that particular sound.

I remember Neytiri saying Toruk Maktoyu. She says it alittle quickly as if it were under her tongue.

I am soo jealous of anyone who can speak Na'vi. I would love to learn!

Hhmm - I was thinking - The Na'Vi don't have written language, right?, so in a way, it is up to you how to write it down, or not?. The only "correct" way would probably to put it down in sylabille writing as linguists do.
