How Quaritch and his men accidentally saved the main characters

After another viewing, I think Quaritch actually did a couple of good things in this movie.

1. If Quaritch hadn't attacked Hometree or if his fleet hadn't arrived at Hometree in time, Jake and Grace would've been executed.

2. If Norm's avatar hadn't been shot in the final battle, Quaritch would've smashed him to death in his link.

If Quaritch wouldn't have attacked the hometree, then Jake wouldn't have been tied up in the first place! I agree with Norm though, he would have been norm flavored jelly if his Avatar hadn't been shot up!

Sorry to ruin your theory, but I seem to remember Norm being in the end link rather than the middle

As for Quaritch attacking Hometree, Jake and Grace never would have been in that situation if Quaritch hadn't tried to attack Hometree in the first place.

I think you're right on Norm's link being at the very end. He most likely would have been ok as long as Jake and Neytiri didn't forget about giving him a breathing mask

I'm holding out that Norm's Avatar is still alive but injured. It looked like he was hit in the shoulder which is survivable.

Yeah, I agree with Helicoradian. The reason he wasn't in it at the end was probably because it was resting, or put in one of those tanks to regenerate, and either way, he wouldn't want to link with an injured avatar anyway because that would be painful.

Ah, but there's something else. Had Quaritch not shot Grace, the Na'vi would've lost the war (according to some theories on how Jake was able to speak to Eywa once Grace became a part of it).

I really don't think Grace's death would of made a difference in Jake's prayers, because even without her memories he's linked with Eywa so she could see his memories of earth as well.

However, it would've been limited to the memories, and not the fact that the "sky people are coming to destroy you".

Since I'm bored...sorry to ruin your attempt to ruin my "theory"

We should realize that what really caused Jake and Grace to get bound was Quaritch's speaking of the attack, not his actual attack. See the difference? Imagine that for some reason Quaritch was unable to launch his attack in the last minute or his fleet arrived a few hours late. If so, Jake and Grace would've been executed. So Quaritch did get Jake in trouble in the first place, but he also did accidentally save him later.


Second, if you watch closely...

Look at the glass door of the fridge next to his arm. See those Na'vi pictures? And the red first-aid kit next to his leg?








Now look the broken link next to Jake's link. I assume the fridge is next to the broken link, and the pictures on the fridge door are posted in the exact same way, and the red first-aid kit is now on the top of the fridge (probably moved by the studio staff) But yes, when Norm climbed out, his link looked like the end link next to the window, so I'm not sure here...

Hmm, interesting point. On the other hand, you can see the window at the end of the building. I guess maybe the middle link is just hidden by the MRI tunnel thing of the first in the second screencap.

Yeah...the more I look at the pics, the more it looks like that Norm was in the end link and the middle one was in-between.

Actualy,Querach crushed the middle one, and Norm's link was at the other end.

I like the thought that Graces death was not in vain. She's my favourite character in the movie after all.

But in the end - if Quaritch and his people did not attack hometree, the war would not have started and they might still be on Pandora.
