50 years ago, if you had to go to the supermarket that was 15 minutes away from home, you went walking. Now, if you had to go there, you'd pick the car.50 years ago, if you had to write a story, design a building or a plane, make calculations; you had to rely on your abilities, and use paper and pencil; or a writing machine. Now you've got a PC with CAD, Gimp and Microsoft Office that does the pertinent corrections automatically; so you can relax more (and get your skills more atrophied)50 years ago, kids had fun with wooden toys and tabletop games for hours. Or went to the outside, climbed trees, or played five-stones or hopscotch. Now you can play Wii, PS3, XBox 360,... but going out is too dangerous. Better stay home.50 years ago, if you were bored you could always read a book, or get to know people in your local sports club or somewhere else. Now if you are bored you need a TV, video games or a PC to entertain yourself. If not, life is pointless. Of course technology is good if it makes our lives easier, but isn't it making them too easy already? Do we really need all this to be happy?

And 50 years ago, there were those who wished for 50 years before that. Its the way the world cycles.

Yeah technology really does influence our lives, a lot... a lot. If a Coronal Mass Ejection (Solar flare) were to hit Earth and wipe out virtually all technology on the planet, we'd be doomed. Not because of solar radiation or anything, but because humanity as built their lives to cater for technology for the past 20 years and with it suddenly gone, would completely upset the system. Basically everybody would go ape s*** because they wouldnt be able to check their facebook.
I believe that having technology and developing it is a good thing but we need to be less dependant on it. Right now, in terms of technology, we have no "back-up". |

Yeah, tech-dependence is really pathetic. We're a soft species, wades of cookie dough. All this easy living has made us fat, lazy, and stupid. But hey, I guess that's progress.
I did a post about this on AF. I Love Pandora, i love everything what is there and everyone

God damn it, an entire generation pumping gas, waiting tables; slaves with white collars. Advertising has us chasing cars and clothes, working jobs we hate so we can buy **** we don't need. We're the middle children of history, man. No purpose or place. We have no Great War. No Great Depression. Our Great War's a spiritual war... our Great Depression is our lives. We've all been raised on television to believe that one day we'd all be millionaires, and movie gods, and rock stars. But we won't. And we're slowly learning that fact. And we're very, very pissed off." - Tyler Durden |
