For myself it more was a cleaner to the mirror that I have been looking to for a long time. The view had become foggy with time. Avatar cleaned that mirror to a crystal clear view. It's not one movie or one fictional character that is the reason for change. The reason lies inside of each of us, the Avatar experience just allowed many to see what had been hidden.

As a side note. I don't know how anyone can go to the top of Everest. It's a good thing that the tallest mountains that I can easily access are only a bit over 14,000 feet (4200m). I love being on top of them, but I have to leave far too soon. At anything above 13000 feet (4000m) I describe it as I feel like I'm dieing. I can't imaging 20,000 feet or heaven forbid 29,000 feet. It would literally kill me.
