Default Na'vi ages.

One thing that has me a little confused is just how long Na'vi live for and how quickly they age.

You can tell visually how old a Na'vi is in terms of their life but as for actual time, I don't know. How old is Neytiri for example?

Can someone please explain this one to me?

This doesn't make any sense to me either. How do they know Neytiri is 18 years old if they are in another solar system. The Na'vi could measure their time scale in orbital periods around Polyphemus or Alpha Centauri. Either way it would be very different from an earth year.

This is my response to a similar question posted on AF

I have often pondered this very point. I have seen specials on discovery and history channel that talk about how devastating it would be for humans and earth animals if our days became longer or shorter by only a few hours. Many milenia of our systems getting used to the 24 hour day would have a big shock on a moon like Pandora that could have a 36 hour day or a 12 hour day.

It's a detail and you need to pay attention at the pictures with Grace, Neytiri and the rest of the clan members. She looks the same as in the present time in the movie a smart proof to the fact that she's still very young and Grace, Norm or Tsu'Tey too. Though their lifespan can be greater than ours

We can take into the account the scene when Neytiri talks about the Song Times. Her grandfather was Toruk Makto and Jake knew something about the time on Pandora and said "It's a long time...". And maybe the Songs are significant periods in their history, similar to our World Wars, in this case the Time Of The Great Sorrow which in the movie is the second.

Judging also their body dimensions and the long time growth, Neytiri could be over 50-60 years old. In our time she'd be 25 years old cause Na'Vi's are twice our size, and physics are a fundamental influence for lifespan. Of course, we won't know for sure until a calendar or a time zone specific for Pandora will be made.

There's nothing specific in canon, but it's mentioned elsewhere that Neytiri is 18 in Earth years and that Na'vi have a similar lifespan to humans.

i don't think the Na'vi have a long-term time system. we base ours on orbit around a star. Pandora is in orbit around a planet in orbit around a star in orbit around a star. the question is why the humans on Pandora use earth time systems. Or how they do it.

In regards to measuring their ages, it would be measured in respect to Earth-years. For example, we can say that the BlahBlah star in X system is 30 million years old, but for all we know that could equate to 1 million years based on the rotation of that solar system. It would be super confusing, so we measure based on our current 365-day calendar.

I think I read somewhere that JC had said they have similar lifespans to humans, but I could be totally wrong...

In the Survival Guide, under Na'vi anatomy, it says:

Quote:
Average life span is similar to that of a human.

I've been wondering this a lot myself. Many have told me, "Yes yes, Neytiri is 18." But where is this info given? Certainly not in the film. Was it in an interview? A making-of video?

It's in the script, when Neytiri is first encountered.
