Fight Club is my second favorite movie, right between Avatar and Moon. Especially fun to watch with PAD.
It influences me at the same Jungian level that Avatar does. It makes one step back and say "Is this what you want?", "Is this what makes you happy?", and I think, most importantly, "Do you want this to define your life if you died tomorrow?" I think Avatar helped everyone's Tyler come out a little bit, and everyone here on the forum chose to "run with it", the only difference is that each of ours is 10 feet tall and blue. (Avatarization, anyone? )That "You're not your job..." speech gives me chills everytime I hear it, especially the one when it shows Norton on the top of the building, screaming it as his guys grapple down. The "In the world I see..." speech, too.

God damn it, an entire generation pumping gas, waiting tables; slaves with white collars. Advertising has us chasing cars and clothes, working jobs we hate so we can buy **** we don't need. We're the middle children of history, man. No purpose or place. We have no Great War. No Great Depression. Our Great War's a spiritual war... our Great Depression is our lives. We've all been raised on television to believe that one day we'd all be millionaires, and movie gods, and rock stars. But we won't. And we're slowly learning that fact. And we're very, very pissed off." - Tyler Durden Last edited by Tsyal Makto; 05-29-2010 at 03:12 AM. |
