I think Eywa would understand Jake even without Grace being 'uploaded', remember that when he told the direhorse to go "forward!" he knew what to do, and I don't think a direhorse understood english.

True, but "forward" is a motion to do something physical. Telling Eywa about a complex plan that it must prevent requires language.
