I don't really think there is anything wrong with reviving threads, unless the discussion topic is irrelevant by the time the thread is brought up again.
...which this thread isn't, it is all OK to bring it back to life

@Eltu's last post; what's there left to debate?

Didn't need that last part. Pretty sure this whole forum is a little... "different."

people who think of navi as furry are so stupid , they are humanoids ,the only thing that differs them from humans is the tail and the queue .

Even if they would see the Na'vi as furries, why would it matter?

Everyone is free to look at the Na'vi in the way they want to...

It still defeats the point... as they are a completely different species, and not some animal given some human traits.

Since we're discussing the whole "what is a na'vi"thing, my personal opinion is that Na'vi are essentially humonoid who have evolved as time went on to their environment, aka darwinism. Blue skin for blending in the environment, the tail for balance, the ears for acute hearing, etc etc

Let's face it, I would MUCH RATHER be a Na'vi lost in the forests on Pandora then a human lost on Pandora.

Lol, this is true. Also, I think it's interesting because pretty much the only thing that doesn't readily make sense about them is their skin color (aside from JC liking the color), has to do with genetics and crap. Or something. I like how the fact that Pandora has less gravity is what allows them to be so tall.

Isn't a sentient animal with human traits then different species from the original sources? Sure it's not a real species, but as in terms that we use to separate ourselves from the animals, and animals from one another, I think it would need a classification of it's own.

What would one call a sentient anthromorphic animal? It possesses the traits of both human and animal, but it isn't really either species.

I think the key difference in this whole point is that the issue should be looked the other way around. A human given animal traits would be easier to understand, and it has been a theme in various science fiction horror stories for ages. A physically transformed human wouldn't be animal in the traditional sense, if we assume that the transformation wouldn't affected the ability to think and reason, in other words sentience. But it wouldn't be a human either, due to the difference in physical appearance.

As for the comparison with the Na'vi, is the difference only here between which species is better made up? Both are the work of imagination, and aren't any more real than the other, aside from the point which we could consider to be more realistic. Then again what we define as realistic, is only encompassed by our view of the world based on the rules of this reality.

Sure , but they still are humanoids , some limbs and bodyparts might be a little different designed ,but if you look at the the whole navi , they just look human ,at least they do to me , they are in no means compareable to slimy green aliens or whatsoever.

It's not only their looks , it's the way they live ,feel and behave towards each other , which makes them look alot like us , though they have totally different views on life than we do.

I'm going to post this now, to shut some people up :/

A FURRY IS:

Furry fandom (also known as furrydom, fur fandom or furdom) refers to the fandom for fictional anthropomorphic animal characters with human personalities and characteristics.[1] Examples of anthropomorphic attributes include exhibiting human intelligence and facial expressions, the ability to speak, walk on two legs, and wear clothes. Furry fandom is also used to refer to the community of artists, writers, role players and general fans of the furry art forms who gather on the Internet and at conventions.[2][3]

It's a fandom. Much like this. I could easily say all 'avatarians' are sick for wanting to have sex with a blue alien from outer space. And yet... I don't because I'm one of you. The furry fandom has had bad publicity, that's the only problem with it.

-> Some furry characters look more human than Neytiri, and only have ears and a tail, and yet are considered 'furries'.

(I also guess that no-one told you guys that the na'vi originally had gills eh?)

(I'm not flaming anyone in particular here, sorry if I offended anyone with my posts, I feel strongly about this as I am a member of the furry community.)

before this thread I had never even heard the expression "furry" or "furries". Should I have?
