A period of brightness it was, when ideas went by boat all along the Mediterranean sea; when Alexandria was the capital of knowledge and owed within its library the first documents about robotics, the first designs of a steam engine, a large cultural heritage from Egyptians, Greeks, Persians, Romans,... Almost lost nowadays.
The Middle Age has been considered as one of the most dark periods of History; a moment in which we let our love for power be over the fraternity and collaboration that made the Ancient times the base of our civilization. It was only after the Renaissance, when people began to realize that knowledge was over all mundane things, including the power of kings and princes. Humanism appeared: now God was not the center of life, it was Man. Martin Luther decided to create his own Church as a reaction to the corruption and decadence the Roman Church had been suffering; and so the Reformation and Counter-Reformation processes began. America and Asia began to be explored by Europeans. A second moment of enlightenment was Illustration; in which religion and the antiquated traditions of Middle Age were put in trial. All the superstitions and religious censorship were taken taken out by reason and the scientific method. The first democratic republic was born: the 13 United States of America. The French Revolution began. At this time, humanity came of age. From then on, there were several revolutions and fundamental changes on society: Napoleon created his empire, spreading Freedom, Equality and Fraternity all over the Old Continent; Marx published his "Das Kapital", changing the conception of society forever; the First and Second World War broke out, the first men was sent to space and the Moon, the first computer was created,... Now, after all the effort made, it seems like now there is nothing else to celebrate. Just war and greedy progress for the sake of multinational corporations; consumerism and need of having more and more money; everywhere. We are halfway to the goal. We need light, yet again, in another time of darkness. Welcome to the New Renaissance. EDIT
