Cool Jake's Marine Hand-to-Hand Combat Move on Tsu'Tey

Well first off, Jake's move on Tsu'tey during their fight was awesome. And the Na'vi certainly did not expect Jake to burst out his Jarhead Clan hand to hand combat skills when Tsu'tey attempted swinging at him.

That move was badass and I'm thinking about learning it this Summer, mainly because I just wanna carry that technique with me just in case the day comes when I need it...

What did you think of Jake's "former" marine skills?

Im suprised he still remembered it! How many years has it been since he did that last? He must've still brushed up on his marine skills even though he was in a wheelchair.

Yeah, that move was pretty awesome. There are lots of moves out there that one can learn to defend themselves.

I took 2 1/2 years of Taekwondo and learned many moves to defend myself against attackers.

That scene also demonstrated Jake's strong conscience. The jerk was beating up on someone much smaller than him, so Jake sprung to the rescue. Even in a wheelchair, 'cause he's just that badass.

In the end, it's not exactly the technique you use that matters. You just have to do 4 simple things.

1: Practice. Good reflexes make a difference. (it's been proven that playing certain games e.g Halo 2 actually improves coordination!)

2: Keep your cool AT ALL TIMES.

3: Adapt, and then of course..

4: Improvise.

It's a matter of training. He was in the Marine's longer than he was out I suspect. You never really lose the muscle memory to ride a bike, you just have to pull the skill out of the back closet and get going again.
I'm not surprised really, it was very cool. His training mentality resurfaced after he got his mobility back. Once his brain and his mind (two separate things actually) got upright and mobile again, everything was there for him to use. Remember his maneuver getting out of the chopper? That's all point man tactics and again, didn't lose the skill, despite being in cryo for six years.
Muscle memory is highly underrated ability we all have.

Oh and as for attitude in a fight:
"Never start a fight, but always finish it."

Oh man, if I had the patience and the attention span (and the coordination), I'd TOTALLY learn something like judo or krav maga or something. Because I can, and I suppose it's useful for a woman to know, you know, just in case.

Don't let that stop you! Go try a lesson in karate or whatever you have locally. The discipline of the martial art will teach focus and patience.
(Or just go watch Kung Fu Panda...that'll teach ya! LOL Love that movie.)

Well, Jake was in the First Force Reconnaissance (Forecon) unit, which is an elite force under US Special Operation Command. He must've had considerable martial arts training, just like Forecon guys today.

Yeah, it was pretty impressive I have to say.

The Spetsnaz use a lot of similar techniques in their hand-to-hand combat.

just do it. before starting university i was bored of basketball so i started judo when semester 1 started last year. I've now been doing it for 1.5 years and have already had 2 competitions. you will learn quickly if you enjoy it and are consistent in practicing. It's also a great stress relief and yes, you learn great techniques for defending yourself. Not only that but you won't be intimidated or scared of anyone so your life becomes more relaxed.

As for what jake did, I don;t know, whatever they teach you in the army i guess. But any martial arts will do. Just remember, the best fighters don't need to fight. Good luck!

If you're going to engage in unarmed combat, remember to drink a fifth of tequila beforehand. That way, if things go bad, you'll find out what it would be like to travel to Pandora!
