I can't upload a photo to share from my computer, and I don't upload my photos to third-party websites.

I'd appreciate it if we fix that.

I am afraid you can't upload photos because we don't have albums enabled. Albums are HUGE resource hogs on the server and if we enabled them, the server would most likely crash or something... Sorry

Though, if you wish to not use a 3rd party site dropbox works very nicely, without having to upload to a website.

What's the perceived downside to using the sites like photobucket or imageshack? I find them quite convenient.

I didn't understand that really, so I want to say something that might sound dumb.

I don't want an album, I just want to put my pic onto the thread.

I think it has to do with bandwidth. Storing the images locally sucks bandwidth. Storing them remotely allows only the URL to be stored instead.

On another forum that I am part of you get to upload photos if you pay. Those that do not pay have to use photobucket or some other remote storage. That could be a useful incentive to get people to contribute.

Albums are disabled for two reasons, one of which is larger than the other. Yes, they are a resource drain, but that is the lesser reason. At the moment, most images of Avatar floating around are not particularly legal. We are not going to allow those to be hosted on this server. That's it in a nutshell. Use a third party site and link them if you must use them.

Now THAT is what I wanted to hear.

Doesn't matter; at LEAST we get to link them. That takes a huge load off my chest...

...Do you think it's the same way with AF? With not loading unofficial pictures on albums, but just linking them?

Well, you're not supposed to link to them, but it's impossible to stop really

As for AF, they have the same rule, but it gets broken constantly. I've seen tons of illegal images on the albums there.

I never really understood why people were uploading Avatar images anyway. They are all over the web so whats the point in adding them to your album? I only used the photo albums for personal photos... I did like them for that reason.
