Do You Want Earth To Be In The Sequels?

I'll start with the question I'm asking everyone: do you think Earth and the humans that live there should be shown in any of the sequels?

I'm not saying that I don't want to see Pandora in the sequels; being able to explore more of that fantastic world is one thing that will excite me greatly! However, I think I'd also like to see a positive change happen on Earth, either in its biosphere or in its people. I would like a resolution to the problem of Earth's dying condition. And for that to occur, I think there needs to be some sort of interaction between Jake/the Na'vi and humanity as a whole. After all, James Cameron has said that the Na'vi represent "our higher selves, or our aspirational selves, what we would like to think we are;" wouldn't it be great if humanity in its darkest days could be touched and talked to by its aspirational self?

This article has a few ideas for a sequel that I really like. One is about using the technology left behind on Pandora to foster rebellion against the RDA on Earth; another is about the Na'vi producing art and other things that change and inspire the humans on Earth. (I have this vision of Jake and/or others in a video addressing humanity at large, and crowds of people watching it in places likes Times Square and Piccadilly Circus.) If the sequels show the future people of Earth changing their ways for the better, then I think that would give hope and inspiration to the present-day audience watching the movies. Another idea I really like was mentioned in another thread here - planting an atokirina in the earthen ground, and that being the end of the series.

...or Cameron could show Earth completely destroyed and humanity becoming extinct on its surface, just to say that we really are screwed after all. But I think there's potential for optimism nurtured by help from "our higher selves."

Hope I said all that clearly enough, what do you think?

Well, Not sure about the Na'vi helping, but if Humanity had a civil war, ending up being better, that would be awesome I think.

Oh, and just for the record: Pandora VS Earth. Epic fail. Eywa has NO power over our realm, and without her, the Na'vi are thrown aside uselessly.

I think it would be good for the movie if it shows Selfridge and the rest of the RDA returning to Earth to announce to the country leaders on Earth why they've come back from Pandora, it'd be quite funny seeing Selfridge come up with a lame excuse..
And then after Selfridge gets his inevitable ridicule about getting driven off Pandora by 'blue monkeys' the scene then returns to Pandora and Jakes new life!

Possibly... One idea that I read before would be in Avatar 3, humanity has nearly destroyed itself and it brings an awakening as they realise what they've been doing wrong, at the ending Jake and Neytiri are on Earth and they plant an atokirina there before going back to Pandora, having given humanity hope...

I'm not sure if I'll find such uplifting or slightly depressing. I'd prefer to see humanity learn to thrive in their self created environment...

You've got a good point there...humanity got itself into its mess, so why not take some responsibility for it. Either adapt or clean up for once and for all.

Maybe the real question I'm trying to ask is whether or not humanity in the 2150s deserves help and hope.

One problem. Na'vi and Humanity breathe different air.
Shouldn't worry about it though. There's probably enough CO2 there already.

Actually no. The main difference is the Pandora has more CO2 and H2S (in levels to kill humans) and Xenon (which is inert) and less Argon (same). Na'vi could easily survive in an Earth atmosphere.

(although on 2154 Earth they probably would use breathing equipment anyway due to the level of pollution, but that doesn't mean they can't survive in the atmosphere)

There ain't exactly a ISV in Pandora's orbit, now is there?
Oh well. We'll find out in the sequel I suppose.

Would be a good scene! haha. I would definitely like to see what has been done to the Earth, it's kinda sad to think about it though...
