I see you're not specially quick at catching metaphors and sayings.
Clue: The sentence does not have to do with housing.

Or does it?
Anyway, back to thread. I disagree with how you (or not you) have portrayed the "left" and "right" sides. You (or not you) seem to be nitpicking. YOU (or, again not you) try running a country. It's probably pretty darn difficult. "Until we realize we wear chains, we won't be free. Until we realize we're slaves, they will have our freedom." I don't consider myself a slave. I don't see why I should.

Halleluja!
Oh well, that's for what the fiction genre was created.

One of the main problems I see in politics is that people feel a bit more entitled to their opinions in areas they are essentially ignorant in. This seems to be compounded by the fact that politicians know this and, generally being relatively intelligent and educated, focus their rhetoric accordingly.

-Mark Lunsford Pryor, Senator, Arkansas, D ![]() EDIT - Eh, what the hell. The problem is that people still expect the system to work for them, but the truth is that that ship has loooong sailed. The system works for the rich and corporations now, and until people wake up and recognize that fact, then the system will remain perpetually broken - there is no red or blue in DC, the only color that matters is green. And this whole "sides" thing isn't helping either. As common people are left squabbling over the issues of left and right, the rich are left to pillage this world unrestrained. They want us divided, and they play on this whole "left vs right" crap to further their causes. "United we stand, divided we fall" And the other problem is that facts don't seem to matter anymore. I don't know about the rest of the world, but I notice that a lot of Americans don't really research the facts anymore, or make a conscious effort to truly understand the politics they support. Most of the news here is flash, buzz words, and sound bytes, so winning minds is more about having the flashiest show or being the loudest, or most provacative, than about actual facts. Case in point - I can go on and on about this, but I digress.

I think that some of the problems is that people on both sides refuse to actually talk to each other in a civilized manner. Each side demonizes the other one, call them names, and yells at them to shut up. One can't have a decent discussion about the issues when people act this way. Everytime I see left/right pundits on tv, all they do is yell at each other. There isn't any real debate or discussion. I think this might have to do with emotion. Instead of presenting their argument in an understandable way, they insult the other side and get louder until their opponent shuts up. I've seen it to often and I am very tired of it.
The truth is that most people are a little of both. Sure, you have some that are hard left or hard right but most people are in the middle. They take a variety of positions. Most problems don't have a black/white solution. It takes both sides working together to solve some of them. However, people have become so entrenched in their own little holes that they refuse to actually understand the other side. This is as a result of an increase in coldness and hate. Again, where is the love, the respect, and honor? Why do we think the worst of someone immediately instead of just listening to what they have to say and weigh everything carefully? I think that we can have less problems with hating one another if people would just take the time to listen.
