(Although we've already discussed this a bit more, i'll say for the benefit of any others interested. )

There is no education requirements, just dedication and willingness to help. Of course, you do have to be fairly physically fit, but even then you will get a lot of support and encouragement from the group you're with.

Mandatory service? No thanks!

Anyway I hope to do something with computers for a living. I know it's frowned upon, but a good wage will be very important to me. :-)

Im with Ciscoloco here guys. I understand the military is not for everyone but for some people it is a great thing and it can really help them out in their life. For me, its not only that Im a plane junkie (i.e. helping me get hours in) but protecting my people, being a part of something bigger, seeing what im made of etc. Also, to point out there are jobs in the military that do not get thrown into the front line. There are tons of different jobs in the military.

However, I'm still not sure; just realized that there they brainwash you to become a war soldier to defend "motherland".
Unless it's different in Spain, you don't have a choice, if you join, you're stuck there for a set time and HAVE to fight if they want you to, there are a lot of people in the British and American military who joined thinking they wouldn't have to ever fight, and are now losing limbs and getting PTSD
The brainwashing is also a risk, maybe not so much to someone who really knows themselves, but I'd say it's still a danger.

I completely disagree, conscription is technically against human rights anyway.

I'm a trained Graphic Designer, currently working in a printers as an Artworker, Designer and general gimp. Have been in the industry for 5 years and it just isn't for me so I'm a part time student as well as my job above. Just finished a Psychology GCSE and hoping to get onto a counselling/psychotherapy course in the coming academic year... I enjoy learning about the human mind and why people behave like they do but also after having some counselling myself I have become inspired to do something like that for myself and to help others.

I currently work for the US Navy as a civilian employee. I do IT work and its pretty good for the most part. I dont really fit in at the location I am at, but I hope that this position will at least help me move up and give me leverage for better jobs and eventually mangement. I am working on a Dual Master's Degree so I am hoping that will give me some stability as well.

I have had a change. I have decided to join the army and enlist in Task Force 160 SOAR. Afterwards I want to join SWAT or work for the FBI.

I want to be a writer. I also want to start up an environmental/humanitarian nonprofit org. I also want to be an amateur film maker, something I've very recently started on. But we'll see about that.

I'm currently a meat processor.

Considering the poll and how many here are male, not surprised about the soldier angle. For me though....
I'm old enough to be a mom or grandma to most of you.
I have a career of 12 years working at a retail nursery. I tell people how to take care of their plants, how not to kill them and what they did to kill them. (see my status under my title>that's what I deal with some days).
My other part time job (I work 7 days a week to make ends meet guys) is at a fabric/craft store and I've been at that for about 10 years. Geeez...didn't think it was that long!
So I'm a retail worker but love both my jobs a great deal because of the people I work with.
Whatever you choose to do in life, if you don't like it, find a path toward the job that you want to do. You're all still very young and have a long time to discover what that is. I didn't know what I wanted to do when I got out of high school and didn't figure that out until I was halfway through my adult life.
Love what you do, or find a way to do what you love.

hmmm, even though I am a "soccer" player, I plan on playing college football (american).
But as for a job...recently we buried my grandpa and arlington national cemetary. During the funeral I looked up. It was a warm, breezy, and cloudless day, and with all the white marble headstones I finally got what serving your country was. It was such a sureal moment for me. So I plan to be a marine, bomb squad, (or any other military branch) or a pyrotechnician or astronaught (sounds childish I know)

A career?? Oy, I'm still working on that...

I keep thinking that I know exactly what I want to do as a career, and then it changes within a couple months. A lot of the same ideas keep floating around, some of them a little more than others, but I need to sit down and figure out how to pursue them!

All I know is that I want something that I am going to love doing, like what Patrice Maire said. Something that will make me want to get up in the morning and say "I can't believe I'm being paid to do what I love!" If I can't get that, then at least I know that I don't want to be working all my life just so that I can have an enjoyable retirement and die. I'm going to seek some good, fulfilling experiences along the way. If you've ever heard the story of the American businessman and the Mexican fisherman, you probably know what I mean.

I just read that story. I could probably do that, I want to move to Spain after I retire. But I want the experience of joining the Army special forces.Like I said after that I want to be part of the SWAT team. I can then retire and move to my dream home.
