JC should do a T2 on the sequel

Just as he did in Terminator 2, which is the most successful sequel in history, James Cameron should look for a way to bring our hated yet loved badass villian, Quartich to the good side.

One way this could be done is from what most of us know already, that the sequel won't involve humans as the bad guys but aliens instead. This gives both the Na'vi and Quaritch/humans a common enemy, which gives JC a logical way to make Quaritch a (possibly reluctant) good guy.

Quaritch is arguably the most interesting character in Avatar and always provides a thrill when on-screen. I feel the sequel will be missing something if Quaritch fails to make a (re)appearence.

The most recent example of this being done was in the movie Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest and its third installment, At World's End, where Captain Barbossa, once the main villain in the first movie, and the good side both found a common enemy in the British Navy and Davy Jones and joined sides.

The downside is, is that it might be too predictable and once again the public will have a problem with a "predictable" plot.

Any thoughts on this?

Somehow, I can't imagine Quaritch as a good guy. The words "Quaritch" and "good" are an explosive mix for me.
But, maybe it's not such a bad idea. For example an unknown Na'vi clan could attack and the Omaticaya (together with reborn Quaritch) would fight them...
And what about Mr. "Yeah, get some!"? That was a great loss...

Quaritch: No, definitely not. Like Impressionists said, it just doesn't fit, and never would Plus, he'd get bashed for bringing him back to life ^^

Selfridge on the other hand... Yeah, I can imagine that happening. He was, after all, just following orders, right? Maybe he figured he could hold Quaritch back, whilst he'd just get replaced by someone who might be even worse, if he was too merciful to the Na'vi.
I don't know... maybe he just did what he thought was the best action given the circumstances.

Okay, "Selfridge" + "good" is something you really need to run away from as fast as you can! Even worse than Quaritch, I think.
Oh wait, do you mean Wainfleet? He's Mr. "Get some!".

Imagine Quaritch in the first Avatar movie, just before death, saying "I'll be back".

Selfridge really isn't that bad a guy, if you examine his character enough. Sure, he could easliy turn good. He was giving orders from earth. He was just the administrator over Pandora's activities. And Quaritch, at many times, went rogue. Selfridge isn't to account for the war on the tree of souls.

To DoP's example...honestly, he'd be grilled by critics if he did something like that. Sounds like quite an interesting concept, but the difference between Quaritch and the Terminator was that the terminator was programmed to be good. Barbossa was, in effect, forced to be on Jack's side when Calypso raised him, and even afterward, he turned against him again in the end.

Quaritch is a very powerful person, and to have him as a good guy would be pretty awesome. But the senario just isn't realistic enough. To me, at least.

^THIS. As soon as he stepped down the stairs I was like HOLY SH** he's still alive. And he was like "SOOO YEER LOOKIN FOR A CREW EH?"

What if at the end of Avatar 2 they're all just hanging out around the tree of souls when Quaritch comes out of nowhere, taps Jake on the shoulder and says "Haven't gotten lost in the woods, have ya?"

If that happened in Avatar 2, I would laugh so hard from excitement in the theater that the people in the back row would hear me (since I sit in the very front).

Yes this could surpass the original cinematic masterpiece! it would work like Aliens, T2, Godfather 2, Empire Strikes Back, Vampire Hunter D Bloodlust, Toy Story 2 & 3, and other great sequels.
