As we have said previously, Avatar is returning to 3D and IMAX 3D theaters this Friday. Below is a listing of all the IMAX 3D theaters that will show James Cameron's "Special Edition" that includes 9 minutes of extra footage.

Also coming in November are DVD and Blu-ray Special Editions that are expected to have more than 16 minutes of extra footage, followed by a 3D Blu-ray release next year. If you missed our interview with Cameron about this re-release, you can still watch it here!

Following the record-breaking IMAX 3D release of the highest grossing movie of all-time, IMAX Corporation and Twentieth Century Fox today announced that Avatar: Special Edition will open in 175 IMAX theatres worldwide - 125 domestic and 50 international locations - on August 27, 2010, simultaneously with the motion picture's re-release in conventional theatres. This enhanced release will feature approximately nine additional minutes of never-before-seen footage and offers fans the opportunity to see it in IMAX theatres for a limited time only. Avatar has been digitally re-mastered into the unparalleled image and sound quality of The IMAX Experience.

Thanks for posting, the list is reassuring to me and I think I can breathe a sigh of relief now, assuming that the IMAX theater near me will be just a bit late in getting the film.

They sure kept me on the edge of my sanity! Geez! I got my ticket paid for by my sister in law and because of her kindness, I paid for my son
Might have to go see it again with another friend... aw gee, have to see Avatar SE again..what a hardship!
Wish they had posted that list a week ago, would have saved me some stress!

That list isn't entirely accurate, as it's missing the IMAX screen at the AMC theater in Rockaway, New Jersey.

The number of theaters I saw was 7000 so yeah...that's a looonng list! Ummm, I know for a fact that they're missing one of the theaters in San Diego. They only have two listed and I know there should be three. Oh well, the one that counts is where I'm going and that's tomorrow night!!!!
