Technically yes, but where is that hydrogen going to come from? The best source is ironically electrolysis

Hmmm...I see, I see. *strokes imaginary beard* Couldn't one use electrolysis to make hydrogen, then use that hydrogen to continue the electrolysis process and make more hydrogen?
Yeeeeaaah...I really have no idea what I'm talking about

Hydrogen is like a rechargeable battery. It can be used to store energy from other sources. There is no freely availably hydrogen on Earth.
That said, hydrogen and rechargeable batteries as well as heat storage systems can provide short term storage for energy that is not constantly available, ideally on a small scale like private homes. Another way to reduce the need to store energy for peak consumption that is already developed is to change consumption patterns. For once - at night only light use increases, the need for air conditioning, washer/dryer kitchen appliances all decreases. Certain appliances like washers, dryers, recharging electric cars, certain energy intensive industrial applications can be timed just right to level out consumption patterns. Current development involves "intelligent" switches that turn on/off some appliances in homes according to the network energy consumption, so that in times of overproduction, they get tuned in and in times of peak use, they get turned off. Thats not SciFi, it is like 1-2 years away. As I said - I think a key feature if one wants to keep things going is to change the way people use and consume energy. Save energy, reduce consumption and time consumption just right and there is less need for storage. Produce energy where it is needed and there is less loss in transport. I kind of doubt that this will solve the overall problem of limited resources and continous overall growth in consumption (I mean the solar panels and turbines also have to be produced in factories that cannot be fueled by solar panels alone), but it may reduce the impact a bit.
