Only Na'vi spoken in sequel???

For most of us having the sequel entirely in Na'vi would be just fine, but not for the casual audience. But A 50/50 split between Na'vi and English would be ok since that's what Jake and Neytiri mostly spoke to each other anyways.

Yeah, that hapens fairly often in scifi.

Perhaps, when Jake and Neytiri are talking, that will be in english as a translation for Na'vi, then when talking to other Na'vi, that will be in Na'vi with subtitles, I think that would make sense and have the best of both

Maybe Max could tag along with Jake and Neytiri as a sort of non-Na'vi-speaking third wheel.

Jake and Neytiri are striding through the undergrowth. Max tags along behind, struggling to keep up.

Jake whispers something dirty to Neytiri. Neytiri's eyes widen.

Well, Hunt For the Red October pulled it off pretty well. So did The Pianist.

The sequel should be entirely in Na'vi, and all the 3D glasses should come with a Babel fish.

There are several scientists and avatar drivers remaining on the planet. We know for a fact that Norm speaks fluent Navi but Jake's Navi isnt't very good by the end of the movie. I highly doubt that most of the drivers or Max know Navi well. We could see some English dialogue between those characters. Jake himself may still require a translator for certain formal functions when adressing the clan.

Thats what I think might happen, in The Hunt for Red October, the russians speak russan in the early moments of the film and then they change to english in the middle of a conversaion so the audaince can focus on the actors and not focus entirly on reading the dialoge through out the film.

My personal thoughts on this subject are as follows.

1) It will not be all sub-titled (that would completely "distract" the viewers from Avatar's famed beauty/visuals.)

2) Jake is now the leader of the clan. He [should] have the power to say what goes. If he wants them to learn and speak fluent English, it could be done.

3) (Most likely reason) Jake still continues to learn from Neytiri, but he will still speak and be spoken to in English, and if the Omaticay have something to say to him, Neytiri translates for him and vice versa.

We foreigners are used to that. The majority of films we watch here (in Sweden) aren't from our country, so we're not used to the luxury of not having to read through it, if that made any sense. (Of course, I am, since I know english fluently - but since many don't, movies are always subtitled here.)

And someone mentioned Apocalypto. I liked that one very much, and one of the reasons was because they didn't speak english. (Of course Jake and the humans can speak english in the sequels and it won't bother me, but I like it when people speak in their native tongue in films.)

Jake wouldn't want the Na'vi to learn English. He's learning Na'vi.

The Na'vi speaking all in English would be just wrong. Having a movie almost entirely in a constructed language (or an English movie with no English in it) would also be just wrong. But since the second one is less wrong I hope they go for all-Na'vi!

And there might be more Avatar action to lead to some significant use of English. They are scientists, they'd use English for their science.

I think when Jake is speaking to a group of Na'vi, that will be in Na'vi and subtitled, when Jake and Neytiri are speaking, that will be in English (likely as a substitute to stop people having to read subtitles when it would really be in Na'vi).
Also, makes me think, they should have options to have the English subtitled in Na'vi on the bluray
