Perhaps only a mother, grandmother, auntie, sister, friend, a woman in midlife, and one whom has witnessed and birthed, might understand the sentiment of this poem


Nine Months Later

Here I am
Here we are
Nine months later

How much my life has been changed
By what was sparked
On a cold winter's night
Mid-December

It was supposed to have been
On my birthday night
As a celebration
Instead
It consummated
Ten days earlier

No matter though
The effect is the same

The spark
Became a seed
Slowly nurtured in heart, soul,
And mind

In the still deep cold of winter
Through the freshness of spring
And the warmth of summer
Quickening, bursting, blossoming
With all the joys and angst’s
That cycles unfolding brings

Now the summer fades
And the autumn sets in
And life has come full round
On this journey

And now begins
Movement
From one matrix
To another

As in the end
All things must end

As the wisdom of life
Continues ....
