Default 'Wild Card' ideas

Unlikely concepts for the sequel.

1. The Na'vi turn out to be a relict of a extremely advanced civilization from thousands of years ago that had a kind of 'Unabomber' moment and decided that technological progress would bring only their own destruction. The Na'vi ancestors deliberately created a Neolithic Eden complete with a superbeing to control and monitor their idyllic lives.

2. Avatar takes place in the same universe as 'The Abyss'- the aliens in 'The Abyss' are from Pandora!

3. It was all a dream, Jake's still back in his cramped apartment on future Earth.

Where this would be his likely expression upon awakening:

I have totally thought about this myself! Really really unlikely, but I can't help but be entertained thinking about it knowing that the sequel is supposed to be ocean-centric.

The Abyss (Special Edition) is one of my favorite movies next to Avatar. Part of me is hoping that when James Cameron goes diving in his commissioned submersible, he'll find NTIs at the bottom of the ocean.

James Cameron as humanity's first ambassador to another sentient species? I can live with that.

Of course, this would bring an abrupt end to a movie with great potential. Not a smart move on JC's behalf.

However, I'd have to say this would be the most realistic outcome.

Just... no.

I actually thought this was a troll for a moment.

All are great ways to ruin Avatar's message.

Agreed,if these actually turn out to be the case I would pretty much leave the cinema right there and wipe the film from my mind. Just a bit of fun!

Ah. They call that trolling in these parts.

I'd say that many of these though seem fit for the end of a story. Luckily, an experienced director like Cameron should be able to pull it off without cataclysmic consequences.
I can imagine several more 'wild card' ideas just now.

His first idea was pretty good.

It sort of amplifies the message, and shows how one race managed to avoid the trappings that humankind has fallen so easily into.

However, it doesn't work. What is the point of having a tail if you don't live in a tree? Why would the other animals also have the queue system?

But hey, I guess that's why they're wild cards.

Seriously. no... Not only would it be yet more invitation for idiots to start being negative, but I genuinely don't think regressing was the intention of the message.

Until proven otherwise, I'm assuming this. Mostly because it a) entertains me and b) it sounds really, really interesting, with a LOT of interesting implications to poke at.

I don't see the big deal. This is just a bit of goofin' around.

My concept: There's a large unexplored area of Pandora known as "Middle Earth"

HNM, there is no single "Avatar's message". It's different for everyone, we all see different meanings in the movie. And that's the beauty of it.

That being said... iron jones is right, this is just a fun discussion. And I do find the first idea very interesting - reminds me of some truly great sci-fi stories.
