I think that judging by how he actually stops when eh reaches the area, he only got there.

He could tell form Jake and Neytiri holding hands (and the morning after hair )
I also read one fanfic which is non-canon but a nice touch where when two Na'vi mate, part of their bioluminescent markings will change to match each other's
