In addition to this, how can a physical entity transfer a spiritual entity (Jake's soul) from one body to the other?Quote:

Don't remind me. This woman has been with the Na'vi for years. She even opened a school for them. Yet in all that time she never became one of them. As Tsu'tey told her forcefully "you do not speak here!!!"There is no doubt that Grace cared for the Na'vi, but obviously not enough to give them her heart, fully embrace their culture and become one of them; the way Jake did. That's my problem with Grace and the other scientists, their lack of spirituality, and openness. Look, I've soundly destroyed your arguments on all counts. Your idea that Tom could have accomplished anything is based on wishful thinking and conjecture. Ultimately we will never know what Tom could have done because he never made it to Pandora, and its probably just as well. Last edited by Tiberius; 10-01-2010 at 08:45 PM. |

The discussion/argument in this thread is really unnecessary and pointless, maybe Tom could've done the same thing, maybe he couldn't. The thing is, we'll never know, nor will you ever be able to guess, because you knew nothing about Tom, not his personality, nothing.
Things like this creates tension and even though some of you claim a discussion such as this is just healthy and doesn't lead to fights, you still sneak in semi-insults in your posts, as to provoke. So please, take this down a couple of notches; I'm not saying you should stop the discussion altogether, just show some more respect for the "other side". Thank you.

One of the few things we do know about Tom is that he was apparently a brililant scientist. Would Neytiri have befriended Tom or even fallen for him? The former: maybe, the latter: no chance. Neytiri had respect for Jake for many reasons: his strong heart, his fearlessness, the fact that he was a warrior when most other dream walkers the Na'vi had encountered before him were scientists, and because even Eywa saw something worthy in Jake. Would Eywa have seen anything in Tom? Would Neytiri have felt a strong heart in Tom like she did with Jake? We'll never know.

And even if it was described like that by him, something can have a spiritual nature without actually possessing a spirit. For example, a movie can have a spiritual nature because it touches the heart and soul of the individual who watches, and brings out emotion. The film itself, however, does not possess an actual spirit. Last edited by Woodsprite; 10-02-2010 at 12:34 AM. |

![]() Tiberius, you have 'soundly destroyed' nothing. I an accept some people have different views on most of the elements of Avatar, but you seem to ignore the fact that peopkle disagree with you. As for your comment about 'spirit', there CAN be such a thing - just because it is physically contained and not a floating mind doesn't change the fact that in a way, it still cab be one. PS. as for transferring Grace, if you'd forgotten, the Tree of Souls connected directly into her nervous system. Also, just for your information, I have never been so intellectually limited as to have to resort to reductio ad hitlerum. The only people I have seen do so are the ones unable to provide any real backing for their arguments, which is generally those unable to physically prove things. I have no problem with you thinking that way, but accept that many people don't and if you want to discuss their points, do it without personal attacks. You're entitled to your opinion, I think you should stick with it and not go flat out denying other people's. This thread is now pointless and nothing else will come of it, so it's going now. We don't want this to turn into AF, people.
