Na'Vi Body Paint.

Hello Guys

I just making this thread to see, if anybody knows where to get some Na'vi blue body paint, and stuff, to look like on of the na'vis, so i hope some will come with some good answers!

I would suggest just looking on google, I just bought some in a show for mine because I only got it all together the day before I did it, it turned out to be too light, so keep in mind that it appears lighter when you actually do it (or at least some types do). Other than that, you'll need a medium type blue for the main body, then a darker shade for the markings.

There are plenty of tutorials around, this one is what I used (although I simplified it a bit based on what I had, I also used my own hair )

I saw that video HNM and I must personally say that I didn't like it. Keep in mind though, it's a good video if you want to look like a Na'vi quickly, but if your really looking into making yourself look like a Na'vi, I would say finding the right paints and safe primer to put on your skin and do ever inch of yourself with a fine paint brush (shaving would need to be required). I did it for a test run, it may of taken about 6 hours to do, it looked flawless and deep colored. I don't have the money for the iris dyes to match their green-yellow eyes, but I think my own eyes can make people swoon so I'm all good.

The thing that took the most time was getting a fine paint brush and painting in-between my hairs. It took a few tries before I got the idea, than it just pieced together. The end result was maybe satisfiying but I couldn't show anyone. I finished at around 4am and if I tried to lie my head on my pillow, the paint would stick. I rubbed the covers enough to make sparks, make sure you do this during the morning hours lol.

They may take some getting used to if you've never worn lenses before, I'd suggest practising first, but it soon becomes easy enough.

I just got mine from a shop, it wasn't great though because I did it in a hurry really as I got everything together the day before I did it
There must be some sites with a better range of colours and types if you look... I should probably start looking for the rerelease too

Get Melco body paint from a theatrical supplier. You'll have to get white and a darker blue and them mix them for the proper color

I'm reposting this info about the paint I use from another cosplay board, after updating the information of coarse.

I used water-based cake makeup from Mehron and the specific type was Paradise professional size. From this type of make-up I used a container of the color 'light blue' and two of 'lagoon blue'.

I bought these makeups from a costume store near my house. Here's a website: Paradise Makeup AQ - Larger Professional Size

It's cheaper for me to buy them at the store, but the website offers more colors which could save time because you don't have to mix them. I'd probably recommend "sky" instead of "light blue" if you go this route.

To make the base color I took a container of light blue and lagoon blue and took and exacto-knife to them. I cut each cake of make up in half, and swapped 1 of each of the half circles to the other container. Now I have 2 containers that have half lagoon blue, and half light blue. It should look sort of like a half moon. The reason I'm doing this is because one blue is too light for the base and the other is too dark. Now that they're in the same container mixing is much easier. To apply the base to your body, add water and apply with a large paint brush. I use a 2 inch wide paint brush. I used to apply the base with a sponge, but the paintbrush is much easier. I only use one can of "base color" at a time, so I'd now have an extra one for later.

If you get sky I think it would make a good color for the base coat and you won't have to mix, which is sort of a pain. I would have probably done this if my costume store carried that color.

Water based make ups take a little getting used to, and adding second coats over large areas are hard because the water from the second coat sort of washes away the first coat, so I normally just try and do a decent first coat and leave it.

After the base coat (which takes a while) I used paintbrushes of various sizes to paint the stripes over already dried areas. For this I only used the color Lagoon Blue.

I painted everything myself except the stripes on my back which I normally have Moco Loco do.

-Other tips: Don't use nylon sponges for the base, they sort of suck.
-don't get wet unless you want the make up to come off, it comes off real easily in the shower though which is nice
- consider a LIGHT coating of barrier spray or hairspray to help preserve the paint job, if you use too much it bonds to the large amount of barrier spray and starts to flake off. I've learned this from experience

I notices we're discussing contact lenses so I thought I'd throw my experiences with those in too.

The circumference was too big for my eyes, so they wiggled around like googly-eyes, once you blinked though, they would realign. They made my eye look smaller since the pupil was smaller. Also you could constantly see the yellow in the peripheral, it was weird but kind of cool.They're uncomfortable at first but I just have a low threshold of dealing with contacts. I hate my regular contacts too. I got used to them as the night went on.

I ordered some other contacts in preparation for the exhibit opening. Yellow Contact Lenses | i-Glow Eclipse Contact Lenses (Pair) but they kept rolling into the back of my head, and the contact solution was washing off my already applied make up, and I was very testy from sleeping very little. So I took them out and gave up, since I didn't want to spend anymore time fiddling with it and further ruining the make up on my hands and arms. Also, put in contacts before you put on make up. Or wear gloves until the end, put in the contacts THEN paint your hands. Both of these methods work better than trying to put in contacts as an after thought.

Also the contacts are non-prescription, which is why I put my prescription lenses into my headpiece.

I attached a picture to show how it sort of made the eyes look smaller, and almost less Na'vi like I feel. Ignore the bad paint job, I only had q-tips to work with.
