Default OOC: Normandy, 1944.

So, time for an RP!

Setting: Normandy, France. 1944. On June 6, 1944, Operation OVERLORD was launched. American, British, and Commonwealth troops dropped from the skies into Occupied France, and stormed onto the beaches. On 25 August, Paris was liberated. This RP takes place between these two events.

Historical Accuracy: Since we are following actual events, we need to select actual units, and actual battles. Actual dates. I'll help you all with anything you need.

Character Options, Nationality: Your character can be American, German, British, Canadian, French, Polish, or other Commonwealth nation.
Character Options, Unit: We all know some of the more famous units, like the 101st Airborne or the 1st Infantry (Big Red One). But you might not know other units, like the 9th Infantry Division or the 2nd Armored.
Ask me if you need help finding a unit to be in.

Ranks: Not all countries use the same ranks. So here's charts!
US: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_...f_World_War_II

Waffen SS, Wehrmacht, and Commonwelath are here (note that their US ranks are incorrect): http://www.oradour.info/appendix/ssrank01.htm

Name: Thomas "Tommy" Winters.
Age: 26.
Nationality: American.
Branch of Service: US Army, 101st Airborne Division.
Rank: Staff Sergeant.
Specialization: Stealth infiltration and medical help.
Weapons: M1 Garand and a Luger, standard US Army equiqment.
Background: Volinteered for the Airborne in 1941. Placed with Easy Company.
Personal feelings about the war: Politician a-holes that don't want to get their hands dirty, so they let others fight for them.
Family: Parents who were taken into a camp because they are Jewish.

Gaming Example: Captain Mcdonald, *salutes* we have a problem. During the drop we lost Private Ryan, we think he was dropped in the wrong place, but we cannot find him, sir.
(McDonald: Get your squad together and search the areas around Utah, his devision was supposed to drop there.)
Yes, sir. (Sgt. Winters returns to the squad) Listen up, Grab your weapons and ammo, we're moving out to find a Private Ryan. *Winters takes his helmet and M1 and smiles to Pvt. Jackson, who looks confused*
(Pvt. Jackson: Sarge, why do we have to look for one man? He's just a Private, he's probably dead.) Jackson, a man is a man and he could save your life. We were ordered to find him, so we will find him.

(Been a long time since I've roleplayed, so excuse me for the crappy example, I need to get the hang of it again.)

Name: Lukas Richter
Age: 23 (born 1921)
Nationality: German
Branch of Service: Heer (Army)
Rank: Gefreitor
Specialization: Motorcycle driver, Signal Battalion, 21st Panzer Division
Weapons: MP 40
Background, family, and feelings: He served as a courier before the war, delivering parcels. His Czech mother died when he was young. His German father is a mechanic in Nuremburg. He grew up in the poverty of the time, and saw firsthand the improvements that the new regime made. His father was put back to work, and he joined the Army in 1940. He went to Africa under Rommel, and served there until the withdrawal in 1943. The Division moved to France for down time and recovery, only to encounter the invasion a year later.

Gaming Example: Richter stood in the North African desert heat by his motorcycle smoking a cigarette and waiting outside the Headquarters tent. It was 1943, and all the men knew Rommel was working on a new offensive. He'd secretly sent a copy of his plan to Berlin, and now authorization was coming back. An officer walked out of the tent carrying sealed orders. Richter snapped to attention and saluted. The officer handed him the orders. "Take those to your division commander." He returned the salute and stamped off. Richter tucked it into the messenger bag and handed it to Dieter, who entered the sidecar. Lukas hopped onto the BMW bike and the engine came to life immediately with a hearty rumble. He lowered his goggles and sped off through the desert.
