They're an excellent weapon against zombies, you can decapitate in one hit with one.
I did say or a sword though, I would likely actually be better with a normal sword as it is.

You don't want to carry more than three weapons as a maximum. There are too any considerations such as bulk, weight, ammo use for guns. 2 guns and a close combat weapon works though, or even a backup close combat weapon, but don't overload yourself unnecessarily, stamina and speed are VERY important in evading zombies.

Am I the only one who wants to carry two pistols as sidearms,
one assault rifle (or perhaps a shotgun instead), and Twin Hooks
as a backup instead of being restricted to just two weapons?

I might not be to high on the speed category, but I do pretty well in the stamina area. Back ten years ago I used to be able to sustain several days of 25 miles (40km) a day while carrying a 70 pound (30kg) pack. I called that "fun." In zombie mode I would be packing weapons big time.
