Latin - "Vanitas vanitatum, omnia vanitas!" - "Vanity of vanities, everything is vanity!"
We live in a material world. A world were money is the main pillar of everything that walks, breathes and exists on the Earth's surface (and, as pictured by Avatar, maybe beyond). A world dominated by property (an abstract concept, I must say), even in the most unimaginable things -as in the case of the Polynesian man who sold his DNA to a private corporation. A world where is you're not pretty you're a fat pig, a freak. A world where if you don't fit the standards of intelligence, strength, economical level, ideology,... you're automatically rejected in some or most of the places. A world where you have to adapt yourself to the requirements of an demanding society. A world where words are meaningless, where everybody talks about freedom, peace, love; and nobody does any of them. A world of sh*t. A world of progress. For the sake of what, I say? I study in a posh college, where "la crème de la crème" from the highest societal strata go to study (even the son of an ex-president went here); and I went to their homes, saw their iPhones and admired their clothing. And the poshest talk like "Man this is outrageous, where did you buy it?": They never had lack of money in their whole life. Their parents live like kings. Some have garages big enough to home two whole families; instead, they've got cars they don't even use. And for what after all? They'll grow stain on their surface. They'll break out. Your home will be demolished. Your clothing will be eaten by moths. Your bottox-and-silicone body will be food for the worms. All is vanity. A brief "I am the king of the world" shout until somebody as arrogant as you throws you out of the top of the hill and you're nothing but dust. And everything you own will die with you. Again, the point of this materialistic world is what? PS: The answer doesn't relay in the individual "I work just for myself". It's in the "I work for the rest", in the love for the others, in the rest. The only way to live forever is throughout the hearts of the people.
