I feel like it is getting harder to get online. I get on less each day, but still want to always be on. I hope i can get on more in the summer, but more people will be home then.
How do i keep getting online without my family noticing?

There's not much you can do other than try talking to them. Avoiding the problem and going around when they're not looking will only cause tension.

No one knows yet on my end. I tell them lies when they ask what I'm doing. I go directly to the extreme just to get a smurk of disbelief on their face. Sometimes, I just say: "I'm looking at naughty things, leave me alone." Sometimes its worth it, a small 'sigh' laugh encourages them to leave the room.
If my brother knew about this place, I would be screwed.

Wait a second. Hold on there. What??
Avatar fandom is not a sin. The movie brought you here, but it's your friends that make you want to stay. Sure, we have an age range from the mid-teens to the fifties (and beyond, for all I know). And sure, a lot of us would become avatar drivers on an alien world 4.3 light years away in a heartbeat. But remember something. Please. James Cameron went NUTS over Star Wars when he was 22. He then proceeded to teach himself the arts of visual effects and film making, and is now owns bragging rights to the two highest money making films of all time. That took passion, and friends, that's what we all have here. The younger members have their lives before them, and they are lives full of opportunity. What if James Cameron had sought to hide his love of science fiction film making and the inspiration of Star Wars? Tree of Souls and being an "Avatarian" are nothing to hide. Be yourself, be online. Share your love here, and spread it out there. You can't spread it out there by minimizing windows or making people think you're looking at a naughty site. Learn what makes Avatar great, know what makes ToS great. Be inspired. And do something with it! |

^^ I totally agree.
People should accept you for who you are, and support your interests regardless of what they are. Its part of truly loving someone. At least its something thats positive and fulfilling! Not like you're snorting lines behind their back. I understand the point of view that "oh you spend too much time online, get out and enjoy the fresh air" so allocate times where you can be here and enjoy yourself. No need to sleuth around, it will make this a guilty pleasure rather than something you can openly visit. If you're worried about people judging you for being here, what do their opinions really matter? If it makes you happy, it doesn't matter what anyone else thinks. Just be true to you, but be honest with those you love.

Oh, my friends know somewhat about this place, but they have the sense of mind not to bother too much about it
![]() And my parents are fully supportive of this forum (and the IRC too) so I'm able to surf ToS in peace ![]() EDIT: Sure, some of my friends also have the typical harsh remarks about Avatar being crappy, stuff about Neytiri and other degrading comments, but I just treat it as mere claptrap :p

My wife knows I am on these forums. She is ok with it because it keeps me from talking too much about Avatar with her.

LOOL!! You guys are right, I'm living in a rat hole that has a big chunk a cheese. Besides, it wasn't something I was going to keep inside though. I plan on a true self-made Na'vi cosplay for Halloween this year, by then, everyone will know.

I know we call ourselves "Avatarians." The terms "nerd" and "geek" used to be derogatory, but they are no longer, especially since society has realized that they need someone to program and fix their PC's.
So if someone calls me an "Avatard," I just say "You bet I am!" Roll with the punches. Avatard Pride!

Taw Makto said it all for me...
(Except, in my understanding, nerd is derogatory, but geek isn't) ...as for avatard, that name is already taken for fans of that anime called avatar... apparently they were actually annoyed when people started using it to refer to Avatarians ![]() That said, I'd be more careful about ToS than I would with most sites I go to just because of how I share all my REAL feelings on here, and others do too... I still don't consider it anything to hide though. I guess I'm lucky I don't live with my family though, it does have advantages like I can use ToS as much as I want.

Very true. My husband knows I go on here but I'm a little hesitant for him to look at the site since he might not understand. The same is true with my brother. However, I can typically go on TOS in peace .

. Sad, I know. The term is also used, as everyone knows for the little icons that we make of ourselves on forums. Its an old word and is been in use for a long time.
