Default Question About Avatar Activist Guide

The Avatar Activist Guide looks like a spiffy purchase just to have the book.

But I'm doing a bit of research, and I'd like to know if anyone that has this book....(somebody here has to, ya think?? )....could tell me if there's a good map of Pandora in there.

Basically, I need a really good one, with terrain elevation and land mass type, etc., depicted. This is a reach. But it's worth asking.

I think not dear. No Pandoran map in the Activist Guide.

And I honestly don't know where to find one

No Pandora map (unfortunately) but, dude, it's a great buy! Pretty much any information you want about Avatar, it's in the book!

How much does it cost? What does it have and is it worth it?

There's no map

It has (from the contents):
An introduction
-Astronomy and geology
-Na'vi physiology and culture
-Fauna and flora
-human technology
-RDA weapons and documents
-Glossary
-Na'vi/English dictionary (has some mistakes in it)

It has a lot of very nice art too. DEFINITELY worth getting

For me, it was around €20-25. It contains pretty much everything about Avatar. Animals, plants, Na'vi, RDA, ships, weapons, astronomy, geology, culture, you name it, it's there.

Sounds like excellent entertainment value, and good research for those writing fanfics.

My intention is a bit more ambitious. It is possible to recreate the entire moon in X-Plane, a flight simulation program. The map would be converted using Terragen 2, Daylon Leveller and other programs to replicate the terrain and other features. I believe I have a solution for the Hallelujah Mountains as well. This is no small effort, but given enough time it can be done. And contrary to earlier musings, a crude flyable ikran may also be possible.

I love Avatar and all the "green" goodness it represents. But I am, at my core, an aviator. As if you can't tell by my avatar image.... I want fly Air Pandora for real....in a simulated sort of way, of course. X-Plane is so completely extensible for this sort of thing it's astonishing.

Of course, all it will take is time....and a bit of an investment in software. I already have the most capable commercial version of Terragen 2. Daylon Leveller is likely next. Not cheap, but then again, not thousands of dollars either. A worthy investment, I think.

Sounds like you have ambitions for this Pandora map. No doubt in time an official map of Pandora will be released, maybe through the 'AVATAR Program' but for now it's just fan speculated maps that are available.

Yes indeed. I saw the one for Crysis, I believe. Very fannish. I can wait. Building a planet will take more than a weekend rush of enthusiasm. I expect to be at this off and on for quite some time. I'm just laying the foundation. Thanks!

You'll be just like JC, building Pandora *salutes*.

I wish you the best of luck!

Let me say, what I liked the most is the prologue: I'm sure you'll enjoy it. It's definitely a good buy.

Thank you, my friend! I just read Iknimaya's recounting of James Cameron's lecture at OSU. I have nowhere's near his drive, but self-taught things are right up my alley, and I have already received most excellent support from the fellow that does a lot of scenery programming for X-Plane. It's an uphill climb, but hopefully I won't have to jump for too many vines!! I feel very motivated.

I will definitely get The Activist's Guide. There's lots more to do than just model the geography. And somehow I've got to figure out how to change the birds in X-Plane to ikran!

This book is a no-second-thought-must-buy-immediately book... I've read cover to cover twice and want to read it again
