Personally, I dont want you guys turning this thread into a:

nature vs technology debate, I'll just end up flaming you, Like I did with Eltu (which I regretted later.).

Take that somewhere else, this thread is your views on the video, not about nature.

Ok, you are right. It got too far from the original theme. It's hard to hold discussion in correct line sometimes .

There is a thread called "Tech dependent" at the Debate section Na'vi; take a look.

Nice video, but some parts of the video were a bit far-fetched but it's certainly within the realms of possibility. 20 years ago they predicted we'd a laser weapons, hasnt really turned out as planned.

And also transparent displays are not good choice. It looks very cool, butI can't imagine doing serious work using those. They should give more attention at usability.

Not just serious work... people coming into the room can see what's on your monitor

I think a lot of what was on there is REALLY wishful thinking for 9 years of development. More like 30+. I mean, technology is generational- My generation and the one coming up (Basically anyone who's 13-24 right now) is the super-technological-texting-social-networking group, and the next cohort's going to have something else. Or, at least, something different. The kind of changes in workflow and technology depicted here would surely be phased in over many, many years.

Pretty darn cool though, OLED's with clear screens are hot.

I'm almost positive this has been discussed, but all this technology vs. nature talk has me thinking about how incredibly ironic it is that Jake uses his avatar (and neural link technology), a highly unnatural, completely synthetic piece of hardware representing millions, perhaps billions of dollars of cutting edge scientific research and production (this not including the 20 mil for this particular avatar), to ultimately reconnect to nature. Without it, he could never have made this connection.

Maybe the underlying theme there is that we can use technology to benefit and help us make that connection, considering our current reliance on it .

We just need the maturity and drive to make that kind of decision as a whole.

I must admit, I'm pretty tech illiterate. However, the only way I can see this working is if electronics were made of some type of living, organic material.

It's a cool idea, though.

Well, some argue that is the future. Certainly, we can't keep reducing the scale of silicon parts forever, there are physical limits. That's part of the reason for multicore processors already. The other likely path to improving power is quantum computing.

Biological computing...interesting idea josie, it would be extraordinary to see something like that .
Unfortunatelly with our state of technology unreachable for many decades.
The progress will try to scale down size of current silicon based processors(however it can't go much smaller, and unfortunatelly limit is not size of atom, it have to stop at much larger structures ) so exactly like HNM said, multicores are a way to go. And in parallel to extreme multicores there will be early prototype quantum computers. But quantum computing will bring a lot of risks ... u know ... ability to break result of multiplied primes into components and as result rendering all security algorithms useless etc. But I think it would do amazing job in solving so many heavy problems. (Btw I red somewhere that quantum computer with just about 300 qbits can theoretically hold more numbers than whole count of particles in the universe, it sounds incredible...)

Anyway I think technology introduced in the MS video is pretty realistic, nothing that can't be done in max. 20 yrs and without using quantum computing.

Not going to happen... Call me pesimistic, but I really doubt that our world will look like that in 9 years... 9 years isn't much. It's freaking not much.
