I didn't even know there is some Avatar movie, didn't see any trailer. The hype and premiere was in the time when I was in the middle of my exams, so I have no mood for any movies at all. My mum wanted to see it in the IMAX in February and I had strong doubts about the quality, as I usually have about movies anyway... But after leaving cinema I was sure this is the best I ever seen an probably will ever see, it was so much emotionally intensive and visually stunning... So in my case it really doesn't matter how successfull the movie was/is in the ratings.
The same day in the evening I started to search if there is something more about the movie on the internet and found AF and few weeks later I found ToS .

So what would I miss in the case I hadn't ever seen the movie? At first I would never know about this amazing group of people here, even thinking about this possibility sounds bad now . And of course I wouldn't experience Avatar, and that means I wouldn't be so open to the themes it introduced than I am now.

I see the movies i find interesting. I didn't know what to expect with Avatar, and frankly, a friend of mine made me go see it. I hadn't seen any trailers or anything, just some still images and similar.

Needless to say, i was STUNNED when i got out of there, and to this day, much of my life and thougts is about Avatar. I guess things might had been diffirent if the movie had flopped ... Im glad it didn't though

Heh when I first heard about Avatar it was on GameTrailers TV late one night on Spike. I thought it was gonna be some dark, gritty movie reboot of the kid's TV show. I forgot about it soon after.

Then a few weeks later, I went to the movies with some friends (saw FOUR movies that btw) and walked in as the trailer for Avatar was ending (around the "This is our land!" part). I wasn't really paying attention to it but the one part that really interested me was the shot of Jake jumping onto Toruk. For some reason I couldn't stop playing this part over and over in my head. Again, days passed and I forgot about it.

Then came December and there were Avatar ads almost EVERYWHERE. I have a habit of hating things that advertise a lot and Avatar became one of them and didn't want to see it just because of that. It wasn't until I went to the movies again to see it in IMAX with some friends. Little did I know that it would become my favorite movie of all time.

I instantly took back everything I thought about it and felt like a complete idiot for even doubting it. Everything about it was just so... unreal. I loved EVERYTHING about Avatar; the story, Pandora, the soundtrack, the characters... it just completely blew me away. And so yeah, now I'm here with you guys ^^

On topic: It would have been a disaster for the movie industry if Avatar flopped.

I remember hearing lots about avatar during the weeks leading up to its' release.. and tbh it didn't interest me at all. It was just yet another overhyped movie to me, and i had no intention of going to watch it when it came out.

However, i ended up going to see it anyway, since a bunch of my friends were going who convinced me to come along. I was pretty exited about all the 3D stuff, as it was my first 3D movie, but didn't expect much else.

Oohh how silly i was.. when i came out of the cinema, i literally couldn't speak. I really hadn't expected it to be so beautiful and colourful and deep and awesome and immersive and just generally amazingggg.

If it had flopped, i don't think it would have changed much for me. Sure, the many awesome forums wouldn't be around, but i would still be as obsessed with it as i am now probably.

P.s, this is my first post here, so.. hello everybody

I didn't know anything about the movie. I didn't see the trailers, etc so when I started to see a bunch of silly articles on how terrible Avatar was (anti-military, etc) then I decided that I should see it. I wasn't very impressed with the first viewing but it started to grow on me so I went again.....I fell in love and quickly tried to find a place online to talk about it . In the meantime, I saw it several more times.

If it had flopped, I probably would never of heard of it and never would have met any of you here .

Actually, I believe i'm one of the people who wouldn't have seen it.

The only reason I saw it was because I went with my Grandparents and my Mum (I know...) Because they had seen the adverts and heard the hype. I personally was completely oblivious to the film really. (Incredible now that I think about it.)

Honestly, I would have never seen Avatar if I hadn't been shown a 10 second clip on a friend's iPhone at a party. I decided to download it so we could watch it at the party, but everyone left before it was done. Thankfully, instead of deleting it, I let it complete downloading.

I'm glad I did.

Same here. It's kind of funny when you think about it. I came sooo close to not even seeing Avatar at all... missing out on that epic life-changing experience, finding this place because of it, having you all as my second family. Thank god I was that bored on that fateful Tuesday night, that it didn't flop. The only thing that got me in that theater was "Hmm... it made 2billion....its gotta be good...and its better than watching Andromeda re-runs...".
