What is a country, but an association you are part of since the moment of birth? A big, huge association where the powerful have the bad habit to say they own a piece of land, just because (or at least, the first ones did). Something you are part of -whether you like it or not- and if the people above you are kind enough, they'll let you live if they hadn't still spent our resources and work in castles or highways, depending on how advanced your association is.
Being this a "free" and "fair" country, isn't it just unfair to be part of something you never asked for? It's like being member of Alcoholics Anonymous when you haven't tasted beer in your life. Why we let them stay? Well, there's a need of human nature called social and security needs. Just as the wolves need the pack to survive, we need our communities to not feel vulnerable. The problem is that we had let the greedy so many times be our protectors that we eventually gave away our most precious possession: freedom. Now with all the "road to democracy" thing we are having some of it turned back, but not completely. If way back in feudalism you had to work for your lord, now you've got to work for society. But at least you can choose where you work at (what a relief). Why all this rant on the nation? Well, I've got to say I liked the concept of how Charles de Gaulle organized the French resistance whilst France was occupied by the Nazis. It was a territory-free government, a man commanding from London to free his people. I've been playing today with that in my History class. How if we organized a global association, a country not based in barriers or boundaries, a nation of persons, not territories? The Resistance. Sounds kind of good.
