I often used to get second degree burns from the sun.

Yeah a few minutes in direct sun will burn me up pretty bad also, nor can I achieve a tan.

Why must hard drives be made to fail so much? I can't really remember how much stuff I lost there, but I guess it will come in time when I realize that I no longer have it...

For hard drives - that's why you have backups...

As for sun, well, I avoid it where I can, and where I can't, that's what a bottle of SPF 50+ is for.
