The George Bush you forgot...

Recently in IRC, a little, discussion, arose around the United States former president George W. Bush. Lots of times, when he comes up, I hear people wondering how the hell he got elected, why America put up with him for 8 years and the like.

I think this may be because of people not remembering the 2000 elections very well. Maybe they weren't that interested in politics back then, maybe they just didn't care, maybe like me, they'd just forgotten amongst the bustle of the past decade. However, A few months ago, on a different political forum, I was linked this video of clips from the election debates. To be honest, I'd forgotten why I'd supported Bush way back then, I had written it off as childish support of one side who I "liked better" but really, what he said in those days was amazing. He campaigned on almost the exact opposite of what he did in office. He was eloquent, reserved, and respectful.

I don't know what happened to that George W. Bush, but I'd sure as hell like that guy to fill the presidents shoes.
