Default Live your life

It's sad to see my youngest brother, an eight-year-old boy who could spend all day long swimming in the pool (and every time I bring him there he does have a good time), or running from one side to another with his friends; stay sat in the typical position a fat, sweating single watching the football match while handling in his right hand a bottle of beer would adopt -instead of drinking beer, he takes a glass of Coke, hey. Watching Disney Channel, or Cartoon Network, or any other channel showing cartoons; he could even stay with the stupidest educative show just because "there's nothing better to do".

It's way too sad; when I was 8 I remember playing with all my toys at the same time and then trying to make my sister clean up the mess.

"Aren't we actually just staring at other's lives, instead of living ours?"

It's a random thought I had while passing by the living room, yet it reflects exactly what we're living up to.

We can't do without knowing what happened to this or that character in today's chapter, or what our friends did via Twitter or Facebook (ironically, best profiles are always from people who spend no longer than one or two hours a day on the PC). We're bored to death if we don't play a videogame or chat with our friends or simply strangers.

And at the end of the day, if we asked ourselves what have we done today...

PS: I know some people will say they aren't this way, but I just state the facts I see around me. Society in general is turning into this.

I wouldn't be surprised if we ended up having a Surrogates-like world.

I COMPLETELY agree with you, ZenitYerkes.

I would write a long reply, but I am too tired for that tonight

Is there something to be achieved in life? Doesn't living a life mean that we should be comfortable with it, rather than trying to do something that doesn't feel right? I've talked with my brother about this "What have we done today" thing, but I don't really see point to it.

We are here simply to pass time before we die, and maybe have some fun while doing so. I don't like the idea either way, because no matter what we do, it's still pointless.

Don't tell people how to live their lives... It may be sad, but everyone has a choice. Read your own thread title. By all means help, try to get people to see what they should do, but don't go telling people what to do or you're worse than anyone.

I'm not telling you how to live your life. Title might not be the best choice for the topic, but it was simple and direct; and regarding the thread: I'm stating what I see around me and give my opinion. I strongly believe this is not what we should make with our lives, stare all day long at a screen.

It's not "HURRR YOUR A INTERNETZ PHREAK GETTA LIVE", hey. Computers have made good and will keep making good but I believe moderation is the key here. There is a whole world out there, it might not be as beautiful as Pandora but there are still places you can enjoy, and many things to do such as archery, swimming, reading a good book,... thrice better than playing your favorite RPG or watching whatever at the TV for up to 8 hours.

What I try to say is that I find sad to see people who prefer not "living" their own lives, to do things such as walking their dogs or drawing something; this is, to have their own experiences; and instead just let their time fly away, watching or controlling another character's life, all day long.

I do not mean not watching it or staying some time on the PC at all; but again, it doesn't have to be your main activity.

It's just my opinion and an advice you can take or trash.

But why are they better?

I know it's an opinion, but when presenting opinions, and strong ones at that, one should always be prepared to back them up with some convincing arguments. I know you only mean to give out helpful advice and all, but just saying something that you think is better, doesn't necessarily make it so for others. Sure most people see this as an advice and nothing more, but sometimes it can come out rather aggressive or even accusing.

I for one know that my life is sort of empty at the moment, but it's because I find everything equally pointless, be it swimming, reading or just sitting on computer all day long. People keep saying that there's so much to live for, but that's only so subjective.

First of all, facts are facts. And what I see is that reality.

Second, I believe it's something sad. It really annoys me and I just wanted to express what I felt here and how I think things should be. I'm not accusing neither telling anyone how to live in the mood of "YOU ARE A LOSER ALL DAY ON THE COMPUTER *bitchslap* WAKE UUUUUP!".

But you can live your life in any way you want. I just say, live your life.

If in spite of what I state here you want to keep this situation going, I personally won't go to your home and kick your laptop out of your house to make you move from the place you're sitting on right now. I, honestly, don't give a damn about the lifestyle every single person at ToS has; and won't try to change it if you're OK with how you live.

Again, I just want to help and show you what I think, give you my piece of advice. Nothing else.

I'm not sure I understand the concept "your life". How can one not live his or her life?

It's as simple as that when you play a videogame, or watch TV; you're not actually living yourself: it's the character who's living for you. You just stare at the screen or push buttons to make them move. So involved you are in it, that you don't realize that what you're actually doing is just to stay sat on a place.

That's how I think and what I see. If you think I'm wrong, well; I can't blame you for it or change your mind since opinions are like butts: everyone has their own.

One might as well say the exact same thing about going for a walk, you just place one feet in front of the other. Just like a player controlling a character is just pressing buttons on a keyboard. What makes the other significantly different one way or another? Everything in life is just something trivial, it's only that if one can find joy in all of it, that they can enjoy life.

There are no right or wrong opinions, but there can be good or bad opinions based on how they are formed. Since when people don't have sufficient knowledge, they tend to form opinions to fill those gaps. And sometimes it's just impossible to address some things with just facts, so one has to resort to opinions.

Well when you're playing a game, you don't actually realise you're just pressing buttons, you think you're jumping around with a gun.
