Default Awesome Animal Experiences.

Well, I haven't posted on here for a long time, but some of my buddies here already know that I'm in the USA (have come all the way from NZ - woo!!) and will be here for another few months at least. The objective was for me to 1) visit family in Montana (which I have done), and now I'm on to number 2) volunteer at a wolf sanctuary.
I have only seen two wolves "in real life", and that was in a zoo in Texas where the poor animals were pacing backwards and forwards constantly... So I don't really count that. Today, though, was the first time for me to get up to the wolf sanctuary where I'll be volunteering at for the next two months. Today I saw real, happy wolves; touched them, and got licked by them!! It was amazing. I've always had a strong pull towards wolves, talked about this ages ago (totem animals and whatnot), and this was a long time coming for me. I think I'm still in shock and in awe of them... I can't believe I'll be working with these magnificent things for months to come... And when they all howled... I couldn't help but cry - it was the most amazing, haunting, incredible, welcoming noise I've ever heard.

So, my most awesomest animal experience to date had to be today, when I met my first wolf, Tamahawk - I approached her (through a fence - will be going in with the wolves soon though apparently!!), held out my arm, she sniffed it, licked my hand gently, then immediately turn side-on for me to scratch her. "Wow!" the director of the sanctuary said, "that was quick - she has just accepted you."

Would love to hear if you have ever had your heart touched by something, or have been inspired in some way, or have anything to share at all!!

Tamahawk sleeping today;

That's awesome. We have a really great wolf sanctuary here in Missouri. I've never had an experience quite that awesome. But my heart has been touched many times. And I have been inspired to do volunteer work. I hope to start my volunteer service soon.

I'm glad you're enjoying yourself.

Amazing! Whenever I hear stories like this I wish I had such kinship with an animal(s). And that's a great picture too.

I don't think I have many related experiences to share. ...though when I went backpacking through Yosemite last week I did see tons of mule deer. Like, more deer than I've ever seen on any previous trip through the mountains there. My friends and I spent a good 45 minutes watching four of them grazing in a meadow while we ate dinner on a high rock about a quarter of a mile away. A couple other times they just seemed to appear out of thin air and I'd spot them only 20-30 yards away from me. I always get transfixed by them when that happens and they're that close.

That sounds LOVELY. That's nice, just watching them do their thing, I really like that.

And yes, thanks Spock, and Tristan

Wow, that's an awesome story!

I personally don't really have any except for one the other day.
It was just a robin sat on a rock in the middle of a river. It may not sound like much, but it just amazed me that such a small creature could be completely unphased by such a powerful force that could take it away in seconds. It just seemed so inspiring to me. Perhaps that's just the way my mind works though.

They're amazing... I've only been able to scratch them through the fences so far (and get my face licked off by them, lol... best kisses I've ever had ), but tomorrow the director of the sanctuary is going to put me in with one!! She says they're bonding to me really well. Eep!

Wolf - singular, wolves - plural
I have to say that wolves and huskies are my favourite canines, although I have a Border Terrier and she is great

I was out shooting at an old trash dup from the 70's in the woods when right out of the blue a doe walked about 15 yards in front of me. For those of you who lack an education, deer dont normally walk up to people, much less when they have been shooting 12 guage shotguns all day.
