Default A Lost Cause?

This is something that has been troubling me for a long time now. The unofficial ToS Skype channel, any other ToS relates skype channels, and ALL kind of conversations with all of you outside the forums. I have never visited the Skype channels, I never will, but YET they are currently breaking me down.

People here have been complaining of drama, of tension. But is it all because of what is happening HERE, in the forums? No.

For a while now I have been told of COUNTLESS occurrences of insults, trolling, attacking each other, and creating large amounts of unfriendliness and tension amongst ToS members, over Skype and other kind of IM protocols. And the problem is, these conflicts then CARRY OVER to the forums!

I mean, I watch every single thread that's made here. And I KNOW that the threads alone cannot POSSIBLY be the cause of all this tension.

I can't go on like this, if it continues this way. I'm completely serious. I spend almost ALL MY AWAKE HOURS on this forum, I dedicate EVERY DAY into making the forums as good as I possibly can. I try to solve conflicts, try to act a diplomat, I try to make sure that nobody is offended, insulted, or attacked.

I do this as a FULL TIME JOB right now. And I can't and WON'T put down EVEN MORE time into checking out an UNOFFICIAL Skype channel constantly to make sure there are no problems occurring there. And currently it feels like all my efforts into making the forums a close and friendly place to be in, gets constantly crushed by tension occurred from THIRD SOURCES!

And it's... it's over the edge. If this keeps happening I cannot go on any further. I won't spend time doing things that in the end does not matter at all.

I am not saying that ALL of the discussions outside ToS are bad - FAR FROM IT. But what I do know, is that there are enough conflicts to spread a bad feeling over to the forums.

I write this to you as a cry for change. I KNOW what amazing people you are, and I know that you can avoid these situations. I do all I can myself, but it is not enough. If this keeps happening, I might leave everything altogether. I don't want to fight for a lost cause.

Again, to clarify - I am sure that most of the things occurring in Skype, Live Messenger or any IM applications are perfectly fine. But not everything is - and this needs to be changed, for the sake of everyone.

Call me self-pitying if you want. Go ahead. But please...to those who do... stop fighting. If you won't do it for me... do it for the forums. For all of us.

Eltu.

There was one conflict.

Leo's the head honcho there, and he happened to be afk at the time.

Its being dealt with. We're not incapable.

RELAX!

Aihwa, in 95% of the cases I am sure that it is perfectly fine - just as I said in the original post.

But I know that things have happened. Several times. Not just in Skype - in ANY kind of communication outside of ToS. And nobody can moderate that but all of you, yourselves.

Wow,,,, I had no idea. About any of this; I've been away from Skype for a long while and only went back just recently for one day. It seemed fine. Am I missing something??

I've never been there myself, and never will - the largest reason is simply lack of free time left.

But from what I have heard... take this as an example:
[19:16:28] Mark unilt

And not only Skype.. all kind of IM.

Again, I must stress that MOST OF THE TIME I am sure it's not like this. But it happens, and that's bad enough - the effects are highly notable.

Best thing I could suggest then is to slap a few hours of temp bans on people who do it.

In which case, I should probably stop posting now...

I'm guessing that's in the ToS Official Group Chat?

... There's a reason I never post in there anymore ...

Look, I'm completely dropping this right now, and I suggest that you should lock this thread before possible stuff spreads.

Oh I didn't mean anything by it; just wondering. I don't know (or personally care) what you might've or might've not done.

This thread is not to discuss any individual occurrences. It is simply a pledge to all of you, to stop all fighting that is currently occurring.

In other words, no need to discuss what has already happened - look forward instead.

I agree. If someone has a problem with somebody else then I believe they should talk things out privately via PM or something else. I think that starting fights on IRC, Skype, or here on the forums is a bad idea. I think it is possible to put aside differences or to work them out. We need to be more mature about this.

IRC is not a problem because it is constantly moderated.

Just sayin'

Skype's moderated too. At least as far as the 'Unofficial Tree Of Souls Group Chat' channel goes, there's very rarely any trouble.

Eh, the way I see it, we squabble now and again. Sure, things may get a little "awkward" sometimes, but I like to think we're all reasonable and level-headed enough to resolve it amongst ourselves. A few incidents don't signal the end of the entire community. As we have said countless times before, we're a family. A clan. Both of the above have internal conflicts now and again, it's only natural.
