Yes, it's a question. I'm curious. Why?

Well I have no idea how important ads are for a website but all I know is that they're everywhere and sometimes they can freakin get on my nerves, especially those "partypoker.com". Even with pop-up blockers on they still get through. >.<

Well, pop-ups are one thing, and ALL web browsers have automatic pop-up blockers. And yes, they seriously interrupt workflow so I understand if people want to block these (I do it myself)

But banners, ads on the webpages, etc - there is no reason to block those...

Well I can tolerate them to a degree but they are some websites now that are putting sound into their ads which is annoying.

Well, then you simply have to block websites from making sounds.

Opera has a feature for that.

No need to block out all ads altogether.

(The main Reason) - They are annoying

- They take unreasonable amount of processing power and bandwidth. Both important especially on battery powered computers, such as laptops

i don't see this 'block content' option...
and opera appears to be interfearing with my in-site searches...i type in a word, and it points me to a list of pictures with the word in the title. in firefox, i type in the same word, and it takes me to the article im looking for...

No man, you don't click on the ad. You click in an empty space on the page.

Then when you've got the block content thing open. THEN you click on the ads. Then you click 'Done".

I don't know what you mean by "in site searches" though, sorry.

@Eltu: Why do you think a "Block Content" button exists? Because people don't like ads.

Ads are there for a reason - they provide money for the people who run the site, and by doing so, makes the site (hopefully) last longer.

When I visit a site that I like, I even click the ads there now and then, to show my support for the site. I mean, it's not that hard - and as a web developer I know how much ads can mean for a website.

If I visit a site I don't like - well, then I don't visit the site, of course. No need to block ads on a site I don't like.

So... out of curiosity - why do you want to block ads?
I allow ads if they are REAONABLE... But I do not want to get 25 popups, ads that play audio (yes, seriously, keeps happening every time I use chrome on a few... specific sites ), any ads with flash (or indeed, flash in general, I prefer to whitelist flash objects), annoyingly animated ads, those 'YUOR PC HAS 2356423 ERROS CKLICK HERE TO INSTALL SPYWARE FIX THEM' fake error messages or adverts associated with domains that are fairly suspicious privacy wise. If a site keeps those off, then I'm fine. Things like adsense I really don't mind (when using a FIREFOX extension that anonymises my google cookie, that is )

I have no experience with opera's popup blocker, but I have never had one get through firefox's, while IE's and chrome's are both fairly bad.

Read what I said above. Banners will still be blocked if they are animated, flash (especially those stupid ****ing expanding ones!!). Ideally, if everywhere had clean adsense style text ads, I wouldn't need to block any ads.

There is a reason to block banners on sites. There's plenty of malicious ad exploits out there, and most are by ads.

If you run NoScript and FF has a popup blocker, you can get by easily. I click ads on my favourite sites, and sites I want to stay up. Other sites I stay away from and forbid them on NoScript.
