Default ethnicity?

I've heard a lot of criticism that Avatar, in the tradition of Dances with Wolves, is a white man's fantasy about race, not a story that would please real Native Americans. So I'd like to ask what ethnic group you all were born to and raised in. Um, how do you make a poll on this site? For the record, my Mom is Jewish, my Dad is Greek, though who knows what other ancestors I might have.

Well, I'm white. But, my dad has Irish. And my mom German and Cherokee. That's all I know.

It's strange how there're tons of examples of native peoples (not necessarily native American) who watched and thoroughly enjoyed the film. So... Weird how people would say this was something native Americans wouldn't like..

But anyway, I'm half Iranian (father's side), half American (my mom's from Illinois; she's very pale-skinned). Some people mistake me for being Jewish because of my moderate skin tone and curly hair.

My mum's Australian, and my Dad's welsh, but with polish heritage. Explains my last name.

Strangely enough, I have a British accent.

Whoops, my mistake. Growing up in America that's what I know. Though Dances with Wolves, and others in that vein, do specifically involve the folks Columbus mistakenly dubbed "Indians" (and then proceeded to exterminate the first ones he found, the Arawak).

I'm glad that despite the Mighty Whitey plotline, this movie does portray natives in a way that some natives themselves approve of.

My cousin has Cherokee blood. Not my part of the family, though. Y'know, a quarter is enough for tribal membership, if you want it.

I'm a mixture of various European ethnicities. I know what they all are, but I've never felt a strong familial connection to any of them.

Mom's Irish, Dad's Irish, me's Irish.

Though there's a bit of Viking on my mom's side. Weird.

Parents are Spanish, my mother from the Basque country. But my first surname is Berber (a ethnic group from the Magreb, North Africa), old heritage from the times of the Reconquista -13th century.
