So , I've lately been to the movie Inception , which is mainly about DiCaprio entering dreams and either stealing or altering ideas of human beings .
At the beginning of the movie there is a scene , which is also in the trailer , in which DiCaprio asks a person what the most resiliant "parasite" is , he then answer that it's a simple idea , a simple idea can change your world, it can build you up, or it can tear you down to the ground and break you from within . Another big thing the movie is about , is dreams of course , the main medium within things happen in the movie, in the movie dreams can be built of several stages , and that you can build even more stages within each other until it gets harder and harder to see through if it's actually reality or if you are still dreaming , and the one who is knowing that he is dreaming can alter everything within the dream for a period of time , so technically you are the creator and destroyer within this "dreamed" world , but only to a certain limit because the inhabitants of the dream will attack it's constructor after a while because they start to get "aware" of him or her . The thing that moved me to go and see this movie in the cinema was it's parallels to another philosophical movie called "Waking Life" , it's about the philosophy of existentionalism , it basically holds the same idea as the movie Inception , a guy falls asleep and keeps meeting people who keep telling him things about life , but also about society , and also about reality and dreaming , so he falls asleep and keeps falling asleep within these dreams and he can't get out of the dreaming , at the end of the movie he meets another person in a bar who was playing on a slot machine and they started another conversation which was mainly about the idea that you are only the result of a dream of another creature . So this simple question fascinated me aswell , and I re-located it in the movie Inception , so one question that came to my mind was , what is reality , So there were several questions that came to my mind - What is reality / or does reality even exist / does it have be re-defined ? - What if it's really just a dream , if someone is making all this up ? - Shouldn't I be able to control it if it was only a dream ? In fact , your mind is the sharpest knife you'll ever get your hands on , it can create , it can destroy , it can be used as a weapon and it can be used as a blessing , but I still find it a mind-blowing question , what if I'm only dreaming this ,or rather being dreamed ? Afterall I strongly recommend watching Inception , and also Waking Life , both movies fuel the mind with new and interesting things to think about and it definately worth the watch .

Not watched Inception yet... not hugely interested, but I probably will see it when it's available. That said, I think that there is no way we can't prove this isn't a dream just because of what we know of dreams, that could be a dream itself and the nature of actual dreams are different in terms of awareness, control, etc.
It isn't possible to prove either way really.

Interesting ideas, something I've been interested in for a while, and read about every once in a while on AboveTopSecret.
One of the more...interesting concepts that they discuss on manipulating reality: http://www.abovetopsecret.com/forum/thread482928/pg1 It's probably totally BS, but it makes food for thought. (Though I would give anything and everything to be able to jump to Pandora. ).I'll elaborate a bit more tomorrow. Right now it's 4:20AM (W00T) and I need to get some rack time.

I had read an arcticle while ago about alternate dimensions. A total of 9 dimensions exist in this world, 10 if the time is count in. We can only experience 3 of them.. but imagine the orhers.. they do exist but what are they?

"Are we dreaming?"
"If we are, then life is a dream." - McCoy and Kirk, as the Enterprise passes through the Great Barrier this thread made me think of that. Dunno quite why.

I have been thinkning about this kind of stuff for a long time. The old topic on AF "Lucid Dreamers: Have you made it to Pandora yet?" got me introduced to Lucid Dreaming. But even before that I would often ask myself things like "What is consciousness?" and learn about other things like Quantum Mechanics and stufff.
Being lucky enough to have the ability to do it sometimes, i've had experiances in dreams that I simply can not explain. They can be exactly the same as waking life, sometimes even more realistic. I need some time to gather my thoughts i'll be back with a long response later.

Well, technically the (waking) world we live in is all just a construct of the brain. A Matrix built from the raw data of sensory organs. The only difference between the construct of reality between dreams and the waking world is the source of the raw data that is used to assemble the construct, being from within the brain during dreams.
One thing I find quite fascinating, and adds to my belief in the metaphysical, is that the pineal glan - which releases the DMT that induces dreams - has biological similarities to the eye. Maybe it is a sensory organ into worlds we cannot yet explain.

Similarities to the eye? In what way?
![]() Dreams are interesting, certainly, but there's no specific meaning.

Similar cells. IIRC the pineal gland of some cold-blooded creatures even has a retina-like structure.
