Uhh... what a night.
I dug another shaft on my new world, eager to make some progress after being inspired by FoW.  After a little while, there was some dirt on the side of it. I removed the dirt, and there it was. A cavern. I searched through it, and got: 20 pieces of iron, 12 pieces of gold, about 80 pieces of stone, and most importantly, 12 pieces of 'Redstone Dust' which I can use to make wires.  I saw obsidian, and I believe there's diamonds there too, but my pick broke after a while, despite being made of Iron. My main problem was that I COULDN'T FIND THE WAY OUT!  So there I went, going up with dirt blocks, placing torches above me, and punching out stone. After about 15 minutes, the final stone block gave out, and sand fell at me. Luckilly, because of the amazing qualities of torches, the sand stopped a square above me. I punched that out as well, revealing a night sky... ...and a Creeper. Which jumped down the hole, and exploded. It took me another 5 minutes to get back up. But I'm back, and happy. Very, very happy. Edit: Just went down there again. The entrance was blocked by gravel, no wonder I couldn't see it. Found some more Iron, Redstone, and two Diamonds. And with the use of buckets, I have crafted my little piece of paradise:

Huge update this Halloween Boo! Coming October 31!
Most everything looks great, except for the part about torches dieing out after a while and needing to be reignited.

I've been playing Minecraft for around two months, never been online yet.
I found this during my first week of playing and my first day of diamond hunting I dubbed it 'The Motherlode'

Nice score on the diamonds. I've been digging at the lower levels of my current map for hours and have found zero diamond so far. Plenty of redstone though...

Level 11 no mattet what map I play, has all the diamond. I found that on level 11. The map I'm playing now, with the help of branch mining has yielded something like 110 diamond, depending on how many branches you have and how long you dig through them.
