So, we all -at least most of us- know what's going on Earth and what we're doing to it.
We know the risk of running out of resources, of a nuclear world war, of a global crisis due to the lack of oil,... We know what we waste everyday and the harm we do to our surroundings when we take or throw away anything; we know the threats to ourselves and the threat we are to others. And from our own experience, we can say that mankind hasn't made of this world the best; rather the opposite. But that's just one side of the coin, a side many ignore since it's not news that our culture, our science and our progress are vast, as vast as nobody could have ever imagined before; neither the work of volunteering programs or altruistic people do on their own, nor the research on looking for ways to keep our species alive on this planet without wasting its resources. After knowing both... should we keep hope in mankind?

*facepalm* Why do people here only tend to look at the few bad things instead of focusing on the numerous good things?..

self-destructive/counterproductive side. For my part , I believe mankind has chosen it's way long before , just look at history and the way it's repeating itself , look at the way how our society is turning itself into a vicous circle , look at the way people are developing into something so far from reality , mankinds "reality" is based on illusions and dreams that are the base of the society they form, on which it keeps building it's very own sand castle that is going to collapse someday , and the illusions will be revealed as lies . Mankind is a slave to itself and will perhaps go down the lifeless void it has created and learned to "love" so much .

because people don't care about the good things as much.
they're not interesting, so they're overlooked.

And guys, sure we may have 'damaged' the world, but we keep going with science and we could fix it. And though it's very unlikely, we could be the most intelligent life in the universe.

Hitler did both good things and bad things. But we prefer to look at the bad things since these holds the most significance.
For me, it's the same here. Sure, there are good parts of humanity as well, but they do not hold such a huge impact on Earth as the bad things.

The bad things are outstripping the good. The bad things will destroy us before we have a chance to fix them with the good things.
Personally, the only way I could hold hope in humanity is if it has the strength to finally revolt (and if necessary, with arms) against the pigs and wolves that rule this planet. And if not, and the world is turned into a neo-fuedal cess pool through the ignorant docility of the masses, then so be it. And if everything that is decent and good with this world is going to die with a wimper, then let it die. It's their own damn fault. Watch. Again, framed for the US, but globally applicable.

I think the worst thing we do is focus on the bad things...

No, the worst would be ignoring them.

I believe the problem is that while the good may outnumber the bad things people have done, the bad things sometimes have a larger effect individually relative to an individual good thing. I think this is the case of how a thing can take a while to build but a second to destroy. But while bad things will continue to happen due to mankind's actions, I can only hope we can use our failures toward the development of our successes.

gotta love the na'vi for that, their life is so simple, they don't need to search for anything else, much less the meaning...
on topic: Zenit, I think we (humans) will either realize what we're doing wrong soon enough, so we will be able to use science and all that to help ourselves, or we'll be extinct at some point. Either way I don't really care in the long term. There is so much to save but also so much to forget. If the second one outweights the first one, so be it.

I think we just need a world government of a high quality to manage the activity of all mankind.
