Default A 'new' way to become a Na'vi

Second Life!

I just rediscovered that community and immediately realized it was the perfect set up to get an 'Avatar' as a Na'vi.
I discovered the Official Pandoran Hub. They just started up a year ago so most of the people are Na'vi, not too many humans. They do RPs in character and have everything you need to make yourself a Na'vi online.
For a price. The people in the group are very nice, willing to help out newbies and really are fans of Avatar. They've created a wonderful area to explore that is very close to the actual planet. (But not as high tech, closer to WoW graphics, sometimes not as detailed)
Which isn't that expensive! The exchange rate from American to their virtual dollars is incredible!
So... for those that aren't familiar with Second Life here's the Wiki site:

Second Life Wiki

I've only been on the site for a week and some people say it took them a month to figure out what I've got already. (I don't have much really)

It's really cool and it would be great if some of the people here could actually meet there!

If you do decide to check it out (it's free, no worries) my username is Patrice Merchi.

I dislike second life.

I have a real life that I can ignore to fly starships or drive tanks. Why do people want a virtual one to ignore?

Based on that link, I must rescind my former statement.

****, no. SL is messed up...

Just thought I'd pass it along. Some people like it and some don't. I thought the opportunity to meet up with other Avatar fans was great. It does have it's drawbacks for instructions, but the people are friendly enough (like here) to give pointers on what to do.

I also thought with so many people wanting to be in the world of Avatar, this was a cool idea.
Oh and as far as that article is concerned I didn't encounter anything I didn't want to see but I've stuck to the safe areas. There are numerous 'monitors' in public areas that make sure no one is 'molested'.
It isn't a game, but there are games, it's a social network, schools use it, businesses use it and yes... there may be porn areas but I didn't see any. You go where you want to go and do what you want to do.
Here's what I saw:
I saw a really cool Na'vi sim, who gestured and walked like a real Na'vi, I saw a whole village set up (granted it was Native American teepees but it got the idea across), I got to climb up into Hometree, and walk through the Tree of Souls.... even as simple as the animation is...it was a very cool thing to do.
And I met some genuinely nice people willing to help out another fan who is interested in doing that sort of thing.

So, you make up your own mind on where and what you want to 'waste' your time on. I have enough to do in my real life that a little escape like this is just what I like to do.

I'm mildly addicted to EVE, but SL appears to literally have become more than a game to some. That's very dangerous. Blurring reality and fantasy like that will only lead to trouble.

Aihwa almost any game can be dangerous if taken too far.

Default Screenshots from SL

These were snapped off a view from Hometree, due to camera angles and such, you can't get too close to the edge or you fall off. First is interior of very simple Hometree. They haven't put a lot of detail in because they're less than a year online.

Hard to see the female Na'vi in front of me due to it being night time. And since we weren't in actual role play, I didn't have a mask on. In an actual RP, if you're caught without one, you're ejected from the game.

Another banshee flyby. Hoping to get more images in daylight soon.

I myself am an avid Flight Simmer, and it's the ONLY "game" (I call it a simulation) that I 'play'. I also develop and build my own models for the simulation, realistic flying, of course. Suffice to say, however, I did have a go with SL, I just can't get into role playing.... so it's not for me.

I had a go a while ago, it seemed complicated and I didn't really understand it. Maybe when I have the time I'll try again.

I'd rather have an Avatar MMO... second life seemed too complicated, too much I couldn't really work out. Maybe one day when I have some more time...
