But in this case, the abstract has us nicely wrapped up in a comfotable blanket whilst the rest of the world goes to hell. We don't want to fight 'it' (even though the 'it' in our case still goes largely undetermined) because 'it' treats us so well, smiles at us and keeps us sedated.
I suppose, in a bizzare kind of way, we're fighting against comfort in exchange for our liberated lives. Some (most) would say that's insane, thus wouldn't fight for it. The question still stands: How do we convince people that the grass is greener on the other side, and for them to climb the fence to get to it?

I would disagree. Gandhi went to the heart of Britain itself and campaigned there to raise awareness. He brought his message to the world and taught about what went on. Within India he taught by example and showed how one should resist through nonviolence. The rest of the world came to know and condemned Britain and even the public in Britain began to turn agianst their leaders. In short, Gandhi overcame by teaching.

Quote:
Because the world of ideas is only defended or attacked by arguments, and our world is shaped through our physical actions -you can't expect to change anything here if you just write books or teach people to behave this or that way. Non-violence and civil disobedience are forms of action which led to India's independence. Actions -and not ideas or teachings- which forced the English to leave. Now -looking for a way to expand your movement? Teach.

Agreed. Action must be used to teach, not teaching being used to encourage action. It all comes down to taking the initiative.
