Exactly... Ironically, living in that way is even less work than what we currently put ourselves through... But even past that, it's the sense of being free, of not having to worry about money or jobs or governments, of your only real concerns being ones like what you will do tomorrow...
That is the life I want, that I know many people do but aren't sure, or are too scared, or don't know if it is even possible to follow...
They hide it, they keep dragging themselves to their jobs, they keep things going, and in doing so, they keep other people trapped as well

You question if we truly long for the Na'vi lifestyle or not, but let's put it another way, from the POV of the Na'vi. Do you think the Na'vi would long for the life of the modern worker/consumer? They've kept their grass green... They don't turn each day into a boring rat race, they don't try and restrict each other's freedom, and they don't reduce each other to a resource or source of income. They know the way life was meant to be lived, and dammit they live it that way.
Of course they wouldn't... what's to want?
Humans don't care about anyone except themselves, they see the world as something to be exploited and destroyed for profit. Humans lack the connection to their surroundings the Na'vi have... While there is beauty on Earth, it doesn't compare for me at least, and what is left, humans are working to destroy

PAD? For ages, I didn't even know what that meant. I didn't really know what PAE was at the time, either.

I just respect it as a great movie and an eye opener to society and environmental issues.

No two Avatar fans are the same. Some experience PAD, some experience PAE, some experience both in either order, and some experience neither. Yet we all love the movie enough to be ToS members.

Ditto here with not having any real emotional issues. I am a lot older than a lot of people here and have experienced a lot more. This movie made me long for the mountains in No. California and wanting to see Hawaii...
I am more of a technical person too, I wanted to know how the movie was made and what made it so special.
I am trying to get into the characters but with the way the story had to be cut down to theater length it was very flat.

(just kidding friends... we're all a little obsessive...why else would be on this board?)

Avatar did hugely affect me, but there are still people it didn't... It's not even necessarily bad, it just did in a different way than it did to many people.

I really liked the movie, and thought about it for a long time after seeing it... but never felt depressed or sad about it. Instead, I tried to have a little bit of fun... even to extremes... (The Na'vi inspired tribal tatoo on my back, as well as the obscure collection of AVATAR toys and books that I own). I even painted some of the flight simulation models that I have in fictional Na'vi colours. Flying these aircraft over any selected rain forest makes for a good substitute for Pandora. Alas, no sting bats, mountain banshee, hammerheads, thanators, or Na'vi people down there...lol!

I haven't had PAD for months, so I feel kind of awkward reading through it myself and tend to ignore it.

You're not alone; I've never had PAD. I just never felt depressed or "longing" in such a way that every feeling I had towards Avatar was ultimately negative. I've always had PAE.
